Nazia Chaudhry is a versatile pop, jazz, and classical crossover vocalist quickly gaining a following on the Internet as well as in her adopted hometowns - Washington, D.C., and Dallas, TX. Her lyrical soprano voice, inspired interpretations, and ability to relate to the audience shines through when she hits the stage.
Originally from New Albany, Indiana, Nazia was an accomplished classically trained violinist and pianist before even beginning to sing in her teens. She went on to travel and perform both nationally and internationally with her local youth orchestra. She began studying classical voice in junior high school, leading to numerous regional and state competitions for both voice and violin throughout her secondary school years. When it came time for college, Nazia committed herself to studying classical voice. While attaining her bachelor’s degree from the prestigious University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, she began her professional singing career as a soprano soloist in Florida.
Nazia's extensive experience in acting, musical theater, operetta, jazz and pop/contemporary music has allowed her to share her passion for performance and singing with audiences from children to dignitaries, and from large stadiums and concert halls to intimate jazz clubs. Additionally, Nazia has performed at charity events and talent competitions throughout the nation. She was a National Anthem singer at RFK Stadium for the Washington Nationals. In 2005, Nazia toured internationally in Spain as a featured jazz soloist with Jubilate, one of South Florida's highly acclaimed vocal groups. She also toured regionally with Jubilate, performing in concerts with Grammy Award-winning singer Bobby McFerrin, Latin Grammy Award-winning flautist Nestor Torres, actor/singer Clifton Davis and Metropolitan Opera soprano Marvis Martin.
Nazia enjoys coaching students in both voice and performance, while pursuing a master's degree in Jazz Studies at the highly acclaimed University of North Texas College of Music. In addition to singing, Nazia has also found success both on and off stage as an actress, performing throughout New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Dallas in commercials, industrials, voiceovers, musicals, operettas, and regional theatre. The shows have garnered reviews in The Washington Post, Potomac Stages, and Talkinbroadway.com.
Nazia has performed with The Wall of Jazz, George Romano & The Euphoria, and toured throughout Texas with D-Town, a vocal project commissioned by the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau. She also had the honor of performing for the Mayor and City Council of Dallas. Some of Nazia’s other performance credits include: The Kennedy Center, Good Morning Houston (ABC), San Antonio Living (NBC), Hard Rock Café DC, Hewlett-Packard, Discovery Channel, TXU Energy, JC Penney, Superpages, Graphic Audio Audiobooks, National Geographic, Winner of Mrs. India East Coast 2006, FUNimation, The Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater, Studio Theatre, Victorian Lyric Opera Company, South Asian Literary and Theatre Arts Festival, and Washington Savoyards.
Nazia’s ability to express emotions through her singing is as natural as breathing. From legit classical musical theatre to adult contemporary, her powerful voice and rich vocal style has a wide range from simple tenderness to sultry pop. In all, Nazia is a versatile classical crossover stylist with passionate vocals and a strong, expressive presence, making her an industry “one to watch.”
