Born Amara Freeman in West Africa’s Sierra Lone, the twenty-six year old Hip Hop artist, Natural Soul, is a story teller whose lyrics appeal to people both collectively and individually. In 1983, at the age of two, he and his mother moved to Texas and by his early teens he had lived in 5 states and four regions of the United States. At once poignant and uplifting, Natural’s music is a union of his story and those of the people he has encountered.
Natural Soul writes, produces and performs all of his music and is as precise with his lyrics as he is with his beats. The result is a marriage of Hip-Hop and R & B with the soul and import of music by greats like Marvin Gaye. Influenced by many genres of music, Natural has fused elements of rap with jazz, and old school with freestyle to create a distinctive sound. While the artists he listens to impact the sound of his music, it is his ability to create soulful lyrics that unites his loyal fan base.
The release of ‘Higher’, a track featured on the demo entitled, “African American”, was an instant success in local markets and let to engagements at a variety of venues in Massachusetts such as: the Latin Festival in Worcester MA, Club Blue Wave in Boston, and Harvard University in Cambridge. Now performing and producing his own music, Natural initially gained experience and captivated his audiences as a DJ. Inspired by the connection that he made with the crowd, he began writing and producing his own music.
In 2005 he founded Natural Soul Entertainment (NSE), a budding production company that is currently involved in several inventive collaborations. Among the most notable collaborations to come from NSE are those with R & B singer Femi, as well as several tracks with local recording artist, Bam Savage. Previous work with Savage led to an interview with the Boston Globe and 88.9FM in 2006. However, his most important collaboration to date is his work with recording artist, ‘Smoke E. Digglera’, formally of Def Jam Records R & B group ‘Playa’, who is featured on upcoming singles such as ‘When You Get Home’, a tribute to the U.S. Troops, and ’Have It All’. With this and numerous other songs on the verge of being completed, Natural Soul is truly, as Bam Savage predicts, ‘one to look out for’.
