Clarissa Shorter, known as Mz. Rissa, is a 18-year-old Georgia native who is known for making her presence known in the Hip-Hop industry. Mz. Rissa began rapping during the summer of 2000 and every since then; she has made music her passion. In 2001, 6th grade, She began to play the violin for her school orchestra and she continued to play until her 10th grade year. During that time, she not only juggled playing the violin and rapping, but she also started to teach herself to play the piano. Even though she played instruments, such as the violin and the piano, dont let them fool you. Mz. Rissa was the only girl, out of 3 children, in her family and one of the few girls in her neighborhood, so she played rough and always hung with the boys. Though she had her tomboyish ways, she still was the center of attention everywhere she went. She began to make it known to all the boys that she could rap. She started free styling against the boys at school, parties, and talent shows and she won them all. After everyone else knew, she had to let her mother know and she did this by inviting her mother to a talent show at school, where she thought it was a violin recital. Now, everyone knew and it was time to begin making CDs.
Her 1st CD came in Nov. 2004, Lyrical Princess, singles are Southern Bred and Mouth Still Movin, and it sold reasonably in the 1st month or so. Then she moved to North Carolina, because of her mothers job, and began selling CDs there. Her CDs began selling everywhere and they were selling fast. Then in spring of 2005, came her 2nd CD, Speak now or forever hold Your Peace (mix tape). And not too long after that, she dropped her 3rd CD in Dec. 2005, Married to My Music; singles are Where You From and Stay on da Grind. Soon, everyone knew who Mz. Rissa was and everyone had her CD all throughout GA and NC. She also dropped a mixtape named "Diva Hood 101" Feb. 12th 2007.
So whats so special about her you ask? Well if youve ever heard a song from Mz. Rissa, you will notice that she doesnt curse in her songs, her lyrics arent sexually explicit either. Mz. Rissa has decided to take another route. She has decided to show people that you can have good music without cursing or talking about sex. She has created her own genre and hopes other female artist will be able to join her in it. This new genre is Glam-Crunk, which is defined as glamorous females who rap and who are not afraid to get down and dirty or just straight crunk. Mz. Rissa hopes to drop another mix tape this summer, Gurlz Gon Wild! An all female mixtape. and we are sure it will do as well as the 1st four CDs. For more information on Mz.
