The Mystical Fullmoon begins to shine in late 1994 e.v. when Thaumiel (vox/guitar) and Equinoxe (drums,
nowadays the only survivor of the first line-up) join their forces in a grim death/black metal project called
Morbid Entity; the following year the monicker is changed, and they are reached by Lord Erebor (rhythm
guitar) and It (bass), thus settling the first core of the band.
Between april and october 1996 e.v., following the defection of It, the line-up is strenghtened with the
arrival of the bassist Asaradel (now Gnosis), and of the keybordist Artorius, coming from the doom/gothic
act Forever Fallen Darkness, now Labyrinthus Noctis.
This line-up produces and records the debut demotape "Through somber passages" in february 1997 e.v.
with the technical supervision of Robert Klister, ex drummer of thrash icons Bulldozer; the tape gets
enthusiastic reviews in all the world.
In september 1997 e.v. Thaumiel leaves the band: his role as singer is then taken by Artorius, and the band
is joined by two new members, the keybordist Arcanus Incubus, already involved in Mortuarium (now
EXM93), and Hexe Ghoberg (now Hexe) as session lead guitarist. During the fall of this same year, the
band gets in contact with several labels, and choses to sign a deal with Alkaid Records from Italy
(Theatres des Vampires, Maldoror), a new label created by ex members of the cult doom act Ras Algethi:
with this label Mystical Fullmoon release the "Beyond somber passages" ep in february 1998 e.v., basically
the reprint of the well-selling demotape, plus two new tracks, published in a special digipack format in a
limited edition.
In this period the band is also featured on several underground samplers in all the world, both on tape and
on CD.
The line-up finds again a stable identity in october 1998 e.v., with Asaradel as singer, and Artorius as lead
guitarist.
In may 1999 e.v. the band produces a two-tracks promo CD, not for sale, in order to mark a definite end
to their professional connections with Alkaid Records, and to show the new evolution of their music: this
promo presents indeed an innovative and experimental style, and gathers excellent reviews everywhere.
During the following summer, both guitarists leave the band due to personal reasons; the remaining three
musicians go on for about two years playing with various session guitarists: to this period belongs the grim
"Live in Lu" CD, the obscure and raw record of a live gig on Walpurgisnacht, released by Vomit Arcanus
Productions, an underground label run by Arcanus Incubus.
Eventually, the return of Hexe (as an official member of the band, from now on) marks the birth of a new
powerful line-up, and of a new innovative style, a unique mix of black metal, death metal and funeral doom,
electronica, ambient and ritual percussions, for a sound - once more - far from trends and from
compromises.
In June 2007 the band performs a successful tour in Italy and the Balcans with Swedish death metal
legends Dismember.
Mystical Fullmoon are now promoting their new album titled "Scoring a Liminal Phase - ten strategies for
postmodern mysticism", recorded over a period of nine months with producer Alex Azzali (Ancient,
Cataract, Mortuary Drape, Abgott etc); the record includes guest vocals from Aphazel from Ancient and
Wildness Perversion from Mortuary Drape and a breathtaking collaboration with the strings of the
Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, directed by famous pianist Ivan Petrov Ianakov.
An amazing artwork is in the works at the moment, designed by Ministry of The Sign (formerly known as
Neon Trinity Kill), already known for working with Deathstars, Ancient, Novembre, Aborym, Klimt 1918,
Konkhra, Dope Stars Inc, Arkhon Infaustus and more.
