Fraction aka Eric Raynaud is one and a new activist of the french electronica and experimental music scene, currently living in Paris. After a 10 years carrier as an indie rock band leader with Mary Lake, he started the Fraction project while he was living in Boston (USA) in 2005. He ditched his guitar and her pedal distortion for a laptop and his virtual tools then began kicking out the jams in 2005 under the name FRACTION, playing noisy-dancy-electronica in clubs all around USA and Europe. Beside his solo project, he's involved in a lot of collaborations for which he develops his particular style, influenced by past and present artists like John Cage, Aphex Twin, Monolake, J.Coltrane and the french tradition for the concrete and experimental research. Entertaining and challenging at the same time fraction's music glitches and bubbles and speaks and breaks and cuts, all while maintaining an engaging melodic conversation with its listeners, keeping bodies stable so the minds feel free to wander. Fraction is often playful, transitioning from the aforementioned well-calculated noise to an enterprising structure of beat and melody in clever and seamless motions. He's the author of sound installations, movie soundtracks and produce music for American multimedia collective Order of the Artists founded by Ed broms.
On tour in US in 2005, he met T-Raumshmiere who invited him to release some tracks on his famous Berlin based electronic label Shitkatapult. Known as well for his rocky' style live set, he composes without codes, from electronica to techno, from the noisy and experimental music to the very classic melodic kind of tracks. He moved back in Paris in 2006 and works since that on new productions, multimedia installations, and for side collaborations.
He first appears on the french net label PLASTIQPASSION with his experimental and free electronica release "Animals" in 2007, then came back with Mess up! in 2008.
He's got signed on INFINE in early 2008, and releases his first 12", in May (Superposition Ep)

Last releases on Les Creatures :
168 collection - crea n°2 (2009)

168's collection is an ensemble of tracks produced while Fraction was living in Boston. The tracks was planed to be released earlier, few years ago, but nothing happened as expected. Now it is time to releash them !This collection is a blend of rough electronica and hidden melodies. Jumping from the trashed hip hop to minimal techno, we hope these "old/new" materials will be pleasing your ears.

The Baby sessions- crea n°1 (2008) :

Lo-fi electronic, noisy, chaotic, improvised, it appears this is how the winter_08 looked like for Fraction. His new work "The baby session" is a collection of short sessions an experiences performed while he only had scarce moments to do music the last winter. It's a wide range of ambient, folkelectonica, and experimental pieces made of real time sound processing, living instruments and noise recording. Mostly improvised, 'The baby sessions' draw the line of an unlikely wild assemblage of texture and melodic tints sometimes touched lightly by a perceptible free jazz and post rock influences.

Mess up - ppweb18 (2008)

Fraction comes back on Plastiqpassion with a weird but nonetheless endearing object. Feel lost,
lonely or afraid of all those bullshits that kill you life???? "Mess up" will be your shelter! like any of them, this one is fuckin' dirty,
messy (of course!), dark, mysterious, trustable, cheap wood made of, and for a reason you don't understand, really cheering in
the same time. It's a simple world. You will know anything of it. It goes straight without unbalance. You will just have to follow the road.
It won't betrayed you. As a matter of fact "Mess up", will be your unique friend for a while. yeah, well ok, until our next release!
"Mess up" is a live set recorded in may 2007. What's funny about it, it's that Fraction, who was really freaky at this time, forgot
to take the external hard drive where were located the sounds and sequences with him. Too late to get it back. Well, it's the nightmare of
lot of live performers, isn't it?. So the guy had to improvise a whole new set with the sounds available on the laptop's drive.

ANIMALS - ppweb15 (2007) :

Tired of doing premeditated and programmed electronic music, my goal was to focused on getting back freedom while composing music.
Electronic music is more and more ruled by market and social standarts. The initial freedom that this music form carried out has been caught up
by economic issues that moderate its open-field potential, provided by the technology.
For personnal issues, I needed to make an answer to that and so something beyond any forms and cultural rules.
ANImALS is the result of a week of improvisation, each sequences calling the following ones while creating music.
The instinct matter in composing seems essential to me in order to bring emotions to the audience through the creation. Our ability to call our
basic animality make us either free to compose wihout outside pressures and compromises and helps to find in us rough attitudes which will anyway
go through the moderation of tehcnology filters.
This work is made of, more or less, short sequences that present one "animal universe". It has its own rules, own agreements, behaviours and social landscapes, defined by the improvisation
context. Experimental music concept demands that composer defines a protocol. "Animals"'s protocol consists in searching to make instinct orders more important that artistic goals.
That requires to get ride of any intentions or premeditation.
Art is an human behavioral invention which sometimes can just kill spontaneity and innovation. Call you animal instinct may balance it.
This is an answer to the current electronic music scene dreariness.
All music has been virtually programmed and produced. The work has been essentially made with Reaktor v5(NI), using its random programmation abilities,
and mixed in Cubase Sx (44000 htz, 24bits). Evrything has been both programmed and performed in a row, on the same week( january 7th to january 15th).
"Animals" is a musical organism.

Check out my video from india out !!! i shoot it in 2007 while i was traveling on a night train - was awsome . so loopy. !!!.
