I started with a radio show in 8th grade and started cutting commercials, editing tapes for local shows and events. Afterwards, I began selling mix tapes when in high school-and I never had turntables!! I used a dual deck recorder and looped the same section over and over, a karyoke machine (to alter the tape speed), a mixer, and another recorder to record it all.

When I did this in high school, I ended up doing music for dance groups and cheerleading squads and charging $3/person on the squad ($3X30 people is pretty nice for a high school kid).

My first piece of recording equipment was a Roland MS-1 sampler, but I used it more as a sequencer. I soon got a minidisc recorder, thinking it would be the next big thing (most people were using DATs), but that shows how much I know. I was wrong.it only did well with smaller studios.

Anyway, I use Fruity Loops, but listening to my tracks, you probably can't tell.

Tell me what you think.
