LabCat was born "Sean K. Marshall" May 30th 1985 at Sunset blvd's. Kaiser in Hollywood, California. From an artistic family, his mother Michelle, toured parts of Europe and Asia in the late 70's and early 80's with a small, but relatively successful, female trio known then as the "Sophisticates". His father Peter, excelled athletically earning partial football scholarships from Florida and Texas. Thankfully they met and fell in love in their hometown of Pasadena, California and raised young LabCat around wonderful music. Artists such as The Isley Brothers, Sade, Tina Marie and Rick James, Parliament, and Heavy D n' the Boyz. (shout out to Pete Rock!!!)

Growing up, Lab played football and basketball until highschool, (Shout out to Pasadena High!!!), where a deeper love of music and ambitions of emceeing were manifested. It was there Sean developed a keen ear for beats and rhymes inspired by groups like BlackStar, Lootpack, A.T.C.Q and Slum Village.

Leaving school after 10th grade, Sean began working and writing until he found himself rapping in Maani Edwards' office. Then, a rebellious teen, confused and threatened by the concepts of 20% creative control and "artist development", LabCat then known as "Open", seemed to have missed a truly "major" opportunity when he decided not to pursue any further meetings at UMG because he didn't want to compromise any creativity. But as many believe and say, everything happens for a reason.

From that point on a lot has happened and Sean has grown into a more complete person and artist. Learning from beat-elders such as "BLACKMONK", "Ras-G", "Dibiase", "Flying Lotus" and "Ta'Raach", LabCat has come full-circle, focusing on production rather than rhymes and is working on his first few projects, the first of which is set to release this later this year, 2010.
