Described as the next big thing, labeled as a diva in urban music, and named Virginia's Female Vocalist of the year, Mona J. is that girl everybody's talking about. From Fred Hammond to Kirk Franklin, this 26-year old has shared the stage with a number of music legends simply because her music is filled with positive messages that touch the soul in a unique way. Using real-life situations, Mona J's music is easy to understand and something all can relate to. She's been compared to Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Kim Burrell, India Arie, Mary J. Blige, and many others, but the musical style of this young superstar seems to be a fusion of several genres of music. Traces of Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Soul fill her textured vocal tone, while her approach to life, issues, and the art of songwriting gives her flavor like no other. Professionally known as Mona J. since 2004, her innovative style, textured harmonies, and commanding presence has captured audiences all over the east coast and beyond. Her high energy performances have moved even the toughest crowds, while her lyrics inspire, encourage, and challenge the hearts and minds of people of all ages. This singer, song-writer, producer, and engineer has more to her than meets the eye. Her first album, entitled "Life. Lessons. Truth.", was solely produced by the Virginia native. Since her first album, Mona J. released an EP called "The Waiting Room", which includes the hit single "Hey Ladies!" that addresses the negative images of women in society. What started out as a song of frustration has become an anthem for women everywhere because of her empowering lyrics and motivating methods. With the song's success, she has been campaigning for women's empowerment all throughout the eastern region.
Recently, Mona J. collaborated with Grammy-nominated Gospel Rapper, Sean Slaughter, and released "Just Add Water". The album received rave reviews from critics, including Gospel Flava Magazine, because of its exceptional blend of two-differing musical styles.
