Parisian born musician Mitch.L is a rare find.
As a composer, singer, songwriter and guitarist, his music transcends genres and captures a soulful depth few contemporary artists offer. In short, his art is the sum of more than one tradition. The son of African American gospel great Clyde Wright, (leader and tenor of the legendary Golden Gate Quartet), and the grandson of a German classical piano teacher, music has been in his blood since day one.
Mitch began playing classical guitar at the age of 14, and soon after studied arranging and music theory at the American School of Modern Music in Paris. Impressed with his musical talent, his father extended the invitation to his son to work with him on his Gospel projects. Their collaboration resulted in "Clyde Wright & the Gospel Caravan Trio," and together they performed as part of a Radio France annual series.
As its musical director, singer, arranger and guitarist, Mitch conducted the rehearsals. The ensemble went on an international tour and performed at music festivals around the world (Fort de France, Martinique; Montreux, Switzerland; Andorra, France; Salzburg, Germany). Mitch also collaborated with his father for the acclaimed "Gospel Symphonique tour," an original production blending a Gospel choir and a Symphony Orchestra, and as part of the sixth annual International Gospel festival in Paris.
In the tradition of Soul icons like Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin, Mitch's musical path began in Gospel and found its way to an individualized blend of styles, merging the passion and sincerity of Gospel with the soulful energy of Rhythm and Blues.
Influenced by artists such as Prince, D'Angelo, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder, Mitch's repertoire of self composed, self produced music is most impressive—he sings in French, English and German, (in a nod to his maternal German heritage) and writes about everything from love, to spirituality, to growing up multiracial in Paris.
Mitch L. has performed on countless stages in Paris, including the Rim Shot Party, Generation Soul, Opus Café, Sunday School and Sunday Brunch at the House of Live.
After opening for Raphaël Saadiq (Tony!Toni! Toné!, Lucy Pearl) at the Elysée Montmartre, Mitch was asked to license his songs for several compilations such as Autoprod RNB & NU SOUL vol. 1 produced by French mega-retailer FNAC, and ON THE MIX produced by DJs from Radio Génération, Franco and Narcisse.
With the independent release of his debut album, he will no doubt catch the world's attention and be compared to contemporaries like Bilal and Musiq.
What makes Mitch.L stand out is the delicate balance of Parisian and American culture unique to his work. He is the soulful voice Paris has been waiting for, and with his impressive musical skill and talent, it's a role he can live up to with ease.
