"That´s Lilith.

Adam’s wife, his first. Beware of her.

Her beauty’s one boast is her dangerous hair.

When Lilith winds it tight around young men

She doesn’t soon let go of them again."

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust

Lilith (Hebrew: night hag)

The origin of Lilith lies in Babylonian mythology (Lilitu: wind

spirit)

According to an old hebrew version of the genesis, Lilith was created as

Adam´s first wife before Eve. Alike Adam, she was made of the dust

of the earth, she was as big as he was, and was on a par with him on anything

else. Adam was displeased with this equality

for he understood himself as the image of God and demanded Lilith to be

subservient to him and to lie beneath him during sexual

intercourse for he wanted to be the giving sky and she should be the receiving

earth. But Lilith refused to subserve. As Adam tried compel her

obedience by force, Lilith shouted out the unpronounceable name of God,

rose in the air and flew away. She settled down by the Red Sea

where she coupled with the demon Djinn and gave birth to hundreds of demon

children daily. God sent three of his angels who menaced Lilith to 100 of

her children would die daily if she didn´t return to paradise. But

Lilith wanted to keep her liberty and self-determination and did not come

back.

So God dismissed the original creation concept. He gave a more amenable

woman to Adam: Eve, who was "made" "as an assistance to him",

unlike Lilith, who was "created". Lilith whereas dealt with studying

the Ur-Tora, the Holy Scripture, to gain more knowledge. Lilith is also

said to having been the serpent who seduced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit

of the Tree of Knowledge.

In later myths, Lilith becomes an evil night demon who pursues young men,

kills children and mates with Samael, the Ruler of the Underworld. In the

bible genesis, Lilith does not get mention, it must be because due to her

beeing a too free spirit and due to God´s infallibility, this affair

does not fit in with the concept of the christian religion. Her name was

found in some passages of the Jerusalem bible, but it likewise disappeared

from there after the Refomation. Thereby she became a symbol of woman´s

strength and femininity.

The fact, that Lilith was the first human being who

revolted against God and deliberate made up her mind to live without him,

was for us the reason to name after her.

Band history:

Might of Lilith was formed in March

2003 by Eugen Leis with the intention to create dark atmospheric music which

is heavy and melodic at the same time. Shortly after, the keyboarder Anna

Leis, who is now preparing for her piano studies, joined the band. Quickly,

the style of the music has been found and the first songs were written.

During the next year, the band endured

several member changes. The current line-up, consisting of the singer Claudio

Enzler (Sacrificium), the founding members Eugen and Anna Leis, the bass guitar

player Rudolf Streck and the drummer Mats Kurth (Coronatus) has been completed

in December 2004 when the guitarist Wolfgang Nillies,

a former student of Victor Smolski, shared in.

In summer 2005, the band entered Klangschmiede

Studio E to record a Maxi-CD in cooperation with Markus Stock and Tobias Schönemann

(The Vision Bleak, Empyrium). The result of their first recordings was very

satisfactory for both parties, the release is scheduled for 2006.

Might of Lilith were well received

by the public on gigs in the region of Stuttgart (among other with Skyforger

(LV) and Sear Bliss (HU)), as well as on Metal Battle 2005, the Wacken Open

Air Newcomer Contest in the Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg.
