Midstates and the Choir of Ghosts began in late 2008 with a show at San Francisco’s Hemlock Tavern. Former leader of Midstates, Paul Heintz had just finished the show when new drummer, Jose Rodriguez suggested renaming the band Midstates and the Choir of Ghosts.

Midstates, an impressive indie band from Chicago, has evolved into Midstates and the Choir of Ghosts. The blog rumors about the name change being an homage to members past has never been confirmed (or denied) by the band, but this new and leaner version of Midstates has been winning over audiences ever since.

Thanks to years of extensive touring with Midstates, Heintz has national connections that allowed this new group to quickly grab attention all over.

Now on the eve of the release of their newest single, “Hate to See You Smile,” Midstates and the Choir of Ghosts has hit the road again to soothe and win over crowds. The single to be released in mid-December has remixes by CFCF, Return to Mono, Change! and Panda Riot.

Midstates’ two previous albums, Shadowing Ghosts and Boxing Twilight have won high praise from Jim DeRogatis, music journalist and NPR host of Sound Opinions:

“…zooming from a lulling, spacey, and hypnotic drone to a nearly overwhelming wall of sound at the drop of a backbeat”

Proudly the world’s only ‘space-motown’ band, Midstates will be touring the majority of 2010 to support their upcoming release: Morning Pacific (Mental Monkey Records).
