DESCRIPTION:
Mick McAuley is an Irish musician, composer and songwriter who has recorded and toured internationally for many years. While his music is rooted firmly in the Irish tradition, he has been part of a movement which continues to push the musical boundaries of that tradition to bring Irish music to a wider and more diverse audience around the world. A long-time member of the Irish-American ensemble SOLAS, he is now touring as a solo musician. In this video, Mick explains the origins of, and performs, a moving a capella ballad which he calls simply, “The Labor Song”. The song pays tribute to the labor movement and the 168 mostly Irish miners who lost their lives in a mining disaster in Butte, Montana in 1917.
