Born in Lander, Wyoming, Michael grew up singing harmony to classic country standards with her Grandmother Audrey. Michael's singing and songwriting drew on that foundation, mixing in layers of jazz, roots rock and melody, to create a sound that stretches far beyond her classic country roots. Currently residing in Portland, OR, her melodies and lyrics draw from the lush, weeping landscapes, and are narrated by a voice described as "full of torch and smoke."
Michael's vocals can also be heard backing up such Portland greats as Pete Krebs on his record "I Know it By Heart", Fernando Viciconte's "Enter to Exit", Dave Harding's "Harding", The Don of Division Street, "Animals In Love", Ezra Holbrook's "Save Yourself" and Lotus Isle's "Bandmates."
"Possessing one of the dozen or so most amazing human voices this reviewer has ever heard in action, this gal is, as they say, going places." - Willamette Week 9.03.

"Jodell possesses a resonant voice full of torch and smoke. She leans towards country, but infuses her music with mature chords and subtle vocal shadings." Oregonian, 8.03.

"From Jodell comes one of the clearest, sturdiest, supplest voices to grace a hometown stage in ages." Willamette Week, 12.02.

"For my money, the finest female singer in town - and probably the best regardless of gender, is Ms. Michael Jodell" WWeek, 01.06.

Michael Jodell's long awaited debut album is reportedly near completion - so enjoy her truely incomparable voice before the secret's out." Willamette Week, 8.06 *
