They have outlasted four Prime ministers, the death of the vinyl LP, the rise of Microsoft and the Internet, man's colonisation of space, the New Romantic Movement, Pol Pot and big hair. Their career has spanned the flared jean coming in and out of fashion. They have sold over 2 million records world-wide and had Top 10 hits in North America and Europe. They have staged three critically acclaimed art exhibitions. Been courted by Paul Keating. They have written more than a dozen songs about drinking.

A popular urban myth concerns a group of art students who passed themselves off as a band in order to con the local publican into giving them a gig in exchange for free beer. The deception worked better than intended, and the group came to be known as Mental as Anything. Nearly three decades later, they are still irritating the public with their highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop.

The band latest release Plucked was released in November 2005 on Liberation in both Australia and New Zealand.

This Album, is part of The Liberation Acoustic Blue Series, it has fourteen of the Bands Greatest Hits performed on Acoustic instruments including the ukulele, banjo, guitar, harmonica and xylophone. It includes great versions of Blacktown to Bondi, Brain and Stretchmarks, alongside the better known tunes like Live It Up, Mr Natural Too Many Times and The Nips Are Getting Bigger.
