Epic Metal warriors Medieval Steel have endured the test of time and the melodic heavy metal sound they created has become legendary all over the globe. The band was formed in Memphis, TN in the early 1980’s with some of the best musicians from across the region. In 1984, the band released a 4-song EP simply titled “Medieval Steel”. This helped propel their music all over the world and introduced them to a loyal fan base that follows them to this very day.

After the release of this EP, the band quickly grabbed the attention of record label executives but no agreements could be reached. As a result no new material was released for some time and the band underwent a few changes in its lineup. The strong lyric and powerful vocal presence of the band’s lead singer, Bobby Franklin, remained a constant and Medieval Steel quickly rose again to even greater status in the local music scene than it had ever experienced before. The new material, while staying true to the vision of what Medieval Steel stood for, had a rawness and energy that made their live performances truly legendary. Demo tapes of new material were recorded (though never officially released by the band), and bootleg copies have been traded by loyal fans for many years since. The original vinyl EP is a collector’s item today.

In response to an outcry for a re-emergence of the band, the group came together again and picked up where they left off by recording “The Dungeon Tapes” in 2005. It consists of several new recordings of never-before released music, as well as a digital re-mastering of the original Medieval Steel EP. While the band has kept distribution of this primarily under their own control, the news of a new Medieval Steel recording quickly spread and copies have now been sold in over 26 different countries across the world.

Currently the band is in pre-production for a third release, which will consist of all new material. The expected release of this is slated for late, 2008, culminating 25 years of metal.
