Str8 G Bio

For as long as he could remember, $traight G’$ has had a love for rap music and the Hip Hop culture. Growing up in the city of Savannah, Georgia he saw firsthand the influence that rap music and the Hip Hop culture had, not only in the urban community but on the world as a whole. During this time, he witnessed everything from the drastic shift of music as it migrated South to seeing a large percent of his peers killed or jailed before the age of 25. “The music game is just not the same from when I was growing up. You had to have talent. Now people just put out anything.”, said the 23 year-old $traight G’$. Due to these conditions, he made the decision to not follow the negative trends that were going on in the Hip Hop culture but rather use his music, poetry, and life as a means of emerging from his poverty-stricken community.

Influenced by artist such as T.I. and Trick Daddy, $traight G’$ began making music in 2000. “It(Rapping) started out as a hobby, all fun no work” states G. G, at that time known as Big Geezy, made a successful debut with the group C-Port upon the release of the underground album ‘On The Come Up in 2001’. Now recognized locally, G branched off from the group and began to garner local fame as a solo artist. Soon after becoming a solo artist, G collaborated with T-Slimm to form the group Mean Mugg. With the release of the ‘Big Geezy & T-Slimm’ album in 2003, Mean Mugg became an instant commodity to the Hip-Hop scene in Savannah. With the addition of J- Hee and LMJ to the Mean Mugg roster in 2004, Mean Mugg released it most regionally-acclaimed album ‘ Give ‘Em tha Business’. ‘Give ‘Em Tha business featured the hit singles, ‘Slap ‘Em Up”, and ‘Brain Surgeon’ which was and still are surefire club bangers in the Southeast region. Mean Mugg successfully released and have been featured on numerous mix tapes and also won several awards.

The year 2006, a turbulent year for Mean Mugg, resulted in a management change and the loss of two members from the group. Despite the changes, the original members G, now known as $traight G’$, and T-Slimm remained together and continued to make music. While maintaining their regional buzz through performances, the two went back into the studio to begin recording for the upcoming project with DJ Teknikz and their solo albums. Bored in a hot house, G began to relax and feel the breeze blowing from the ceiling fan and suddenly it hit him. This was the inspiration for the hit single, ‘Ceilin Fan (Money, Money)’. Ceilin Fan, produced by Y.Flo, is a tailor-made southern-market party-time single. ‘Ceilin Fan’ boasts blaring horns and an unorthodox drum pattern that will keep you vibrant and entertained throughout the song. It is insanely catchy and sure to keep the club jumping.

Presently achieving underground success, Mean Mugg’s $traight G’$ shows promise to be a positive icon for the music industry. $traight G’$ has opened for several established rap acts, most recently Lil Wayne, and has won several music awards by way of his musical talent. His most notable award was the WQBT 94.1 the Beat’s inaugural Platinum Hood Award for best local rap label via Mean Mugg Productions. $traight G’$ was also a feature performer at WEAS E-93.1’s Jam Fest which also included the likes of Bone Crusher and Joe Buddens. $traight G’$ was the 2004 Winner of Big Boi (Outkast) Entertainment Music competition and also Mr. Bike Fest, a music competition held at Myrtle Beach's Black Bikers Weekend.

$traight G’$ has two new projects in the streets: DJ Hotrod & $traight G’$ ‘Addicted to The Hustle’ and ‘Off Da Scale’. Also, $traight G’$ has a plethora of shows and outings scheduled during the 2nd quarter 2008. On Mondays, $traight G’$ performs at Club Miami and Club Crucial in Atlanta, GA. On Wednesdays, G performs at Throbacks in Atlanta, GA hosted by 107.9’s Akini the Black Mac or at Island Breeze when in Savannah. On May 9, $traight G’$ performs at Island Breeze in Savannah, GA to celebrate his birthday and the release of his first major mix tape, ‘DJ Teknikz and Mean Mugg presents: $traight G’s.

It is $traight G’$ unyielding spirit and energetic presence that will bring him from the trenches into a promising music career that is destined to bring fame and fortune. It is now Mean Muggs’ time to show the world that Savannah is famous for more than just movies and the Historic District as $traight G’$ and Mean Mugg Productions launches into the music industry.
