DESCRIPTION:
"All This Rain"

"Mariah has been dead for decades now but her legacy lives on, and still effects lives today. Using cunning and whit, Mariah managed to keep her family together, alive and well, during a time when that was unheard of, but I heard right along with Emit Smith, her descendent, on NBC's, 'Who Do You Think You Are'.
The show had inspired a casual dabble into my ancestry. Mariah's story lit a fire in me, to listen to the stories in my blood. To meet my ancestors and hear what they were trying to tell me. 'All This Rain' is me facing the demons, the weakness, and the shameful accounts that should have been the axe to the trunk to which I cling.
I had to learn that it's in the facing and the naming of demons they are banished. It's at our weakest point that our strength is born. It's in the recounting of shameful stories that allows history to remind us all to not be too proud, for which of our stories will be told about us?
I am still uncovering Kings, Abolitionists,
Wealthy Slaveowners, Doctors, Poor Jewish Women, Princes of Wales, Farmers, Illegal Immigrants, and yet, somehow, they add up to me. Through it all, through the long stretch of time, after all this rain, my soul has again...found my way home."-James R Waddell
