Recorded over two years’ worth of weekends, Kendall Jane Meade’s third outing doesn’t sound so much unhurried as it does stretched out on a hammock above a bubbling brook somewhere idyllic. It’s a genial, homemade record redolent of clever folk-popsters such as The Innocence Mission and Essex Green, and this New Yorker and sometime Sparklehorse member couples her sunny demeanour and honeyed voice with the gentle brushstroke of drums, scatty acoustic guitar and heavily whiskered pals on chamber-pop tools jamming into dusk like The Band after a long day. Even Meade’s mildly twee idealism, which means a fistful of her songs are perfect candidates for yoof drama, can’t stop this from shining warmly. -Chris Parkin

Mascott's Kendall Meade isn't speaking directly to you - it just seems that way. The intimacy starts with chamber pop - choruses buttressed by string and piano. Lyrics aren't confessional, but rather built on mundane details that add up to profound joy or sadness. "Press Play" is a declaration of love, "Like Letting Go of the Sun,: crushingly, it's inverse.

LUCID CULTURE
Mascott’s two previous cds were good but this is really something special, a showcase for frontwoman Kendall Jane Meade’s jewel-like, brilliantly nuanced purist pop songcraft. Even the sad songs here glimmer and sparkle with jangly guitar, vividly incisive piano and even strings in places; Jim Bentley’s production is terse, understated and true to form.

.Meade glowed with infectious energy, which she put to good use on the adorable cover of the Go-Go's "Vacation" that closed the set, relinquishing her guitar and dancing gleefully as she sang. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone in the audience was left wishing Meade was their friend, or feeling like she already was.
EARDRUMS MUSIC
The songs are quite light hearted, but also deep enough to make an impact both musically and lyrically. Very nice, melodic pop music. Meade is kind of a veteran in the indie-world

Art Project is a luscious and inviting dose of smart soft pop.delivered with sincere energy and determination. Not only is Meade an excellent songwriter, but she has a voice that is so smooth and inviting that you can't help but fall in love with her subdued easygoing pop.

The first single from Art Project, “Press Play (And Then Repeat),” walks but doesn’t crawl, pops with sparse, wiry guitar chords, and follows the bass up and down mountains of happy pop sweetness.

You might just want to group Kendall with the countless other female singer/songwriters out there in the world, but you'd be missing something special. To be completely honest, I'm not exactly sure what sets her above her peers, but from the first listen I knew this was going to be an album that I'd return to and enjoy.
