Mark McConkey

I grew up in Nepal, but I'm actually from Belfast Northern Ireland where I lived for 11 years or so before moving to San Marcos, TX 5 years ago at the invite of my good friend Barry Bynum (still one of the greatest guitarists I've ever heard).

At the age of 15 I first encountered the power of the Holy Spirit and have been addicted ever since! My passion is for discovering intimacy with Jesus, my lover, friend and King and for taking others with me. I guess I do this mainly through song as that is where He seems to have gifted me, although I am constantly challenged to get out of my box and worship Him in other ways. Over recent years God has given me a heart for the 'song of the Lord', or the spontaneous song. There is an honesty and truth in getting off the written page where we are challenged to discover the worship that is actually in our hearts, not just a regurgitation of words which we are fed from the book in our hands or the screen in front of us. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of the songs that God has given us through so many anointed and gifted songwriters. I just love what God says to us in that moment of worship when His Holy Spirit gives us a song just for that specific time. It can change the course of our whole lives!

I feel blessed to have been able to record 3 cds since arriving here in the US. My most recent, 'Your Eyes' has invited differing views from friends and beyond, some love it and some "prefer my earlier cds". Ah well, but isn't that the way it goes, I won't take it to heart! I love writing songs and will continue to do so for as long as God gives them to me.
