I am Maria Helen, singer and songwriter from Lofoten, a group of islands located above the Arctic Circle, where the sun never sets in summer and never rises in the darkest winter time. This setting has been the perfect starting place for my songwriting
My music is influenced and inspired by just about anything from the places I've been, the people I meet, the music I listen to, but in a special way the mood and calmness of the past-midnight hours as most part of my music is written during nighttime
I always find the melodies to be the easiest part of my writing as they seem to appear on their own, while the lyrics demand more of me, as I value the meaning of the words and the interaction between the melody and the story you want to tell. Most times I dont really know how and why a new song is appearing, but I'm always appreciating the process and the satisfaction that comes after
I released my first EP Slippery ground a year ago with five of my songs, it was a good start and I am now looking forward to continue the story and share my music with anyone who would like to listen
