This last 12 months has seen Mardi playing her little heart out, sharing the stage with The Whitlams, Renee Geyer, Felicity Urqhart, Catherine Britt, Jez Mead, Watussi, Lanie Lane, The Botanics, Costa Rae, Caitlin Harnett, and Teneille Neda just to name a few
Her debut self tittled EP Mardi Pannan was released in October 2010. The first single Om -.
'is a desperate but optimistic ode to her inner inspiration - "And this is not just another old love song, no, this is dedicated to the one where my sound is from." It's acoustic-folk with an oh-so-subtle country element in it has chorus that works nicely in balancing the highs and lows of the vocals' Kelly Snyders the dwarf.com
.
Most of the EP was recorded, engineered and produced by Dan Conway (you may have seen him recently on Australia's Got Talent). .
The second single Tattooed was released in March 2011. And it has already found itself on the airwaves of JJJ. And been added to radio nationally.
"we can only assume that her air play will begin to rise and many of you will be in the 'I knew about her first' category. Her soft and folky voice is an absolute pleasure and her EP is one of those recordings you just want to wrap yourself up in and have a cup of tea. With diverse themes to each track on her EP, you'll find something for every mood, including a couple of nice summery numbers to while away the cold winter days
Mardi achieves a certain delicacy in her music, that balance of innocence, experience, pain and joy all in delightful packages of rich sound. It's no wonder she's been a Music Oz finalist twice and has won the Lighthouse songwriting award at the Port Fairy Folk Festival. With other festivals including Woodford, Falls and Tamworth Country Music Festival under her belt, it's testament to the calibre of her music and style." Katie Bell – timberandsteel.com.
'One thing that sets Pannan apart is the fact that she has a great folk voice, without ever seeming like she's putting an effort into making it sound that way. This is a really great EP, featuring some really great talent" Kelly Snyder's thedwarf.com .
"Conversely, Mardi probably hasn't got around to thinking about her European sales figures. She makes understated, honest, human music sitting next to you on the couch, having a quiet conversation with someone you know. Her voice has a lilt and a catch to it that sometimes can make you think of Kasey Chambers without the Appalachian twang. Songs that seem to have some intimacy to them, but with the craft that they could grow into a sympathetic arrangement. Unself-conscious music she probably just needed to make."
Ross Celland, Drum Media
"It is a special experience when you go out to enjoy a great band that you have seen a couple of times and find the highlight was listening to someone who you have never heard before- the supporting act. We really enjoyed your show."- writes a Whitlams fan after witnessing Mardi perform.
