MANDARA

Mandara Project originates in 1998 from an idea of Gennaro de Rosa.

The purpose of the project is that of joining world sound with the electronic music of teutonic descent. hence the Krautrock, Ethnojazz experimentation of the German Embryo, second phase of the Psichedelia and the Dub and Rap sounds coming from the States.

At first this fusion seemed impossible to he realized because it was a combination of very contrasting types.

Mandara, in fact, originates from a contrast and lives by contrasts ; the project as made from these contrasting sounds the symbol and mark of its music.

Mandara explores the cultures of the Mediterranean ; the Middle east, Africa and the Far East; It confronts itself with the most outcast cultures, always respecting the differnt people their traditions and their cultural models. Mandara accepts and above all lives its cosmolitan life reflecting many parts of the world.

Many views and many movements have made the Mandara sound cosmopolitan, and defining it world music would be very reductive, considering the whirl of all its contrasting energies.

While in the World Music are moves by attraction and contamination, the energy of Mandara comes out exact from the attempt to put rejecting forces togheter.

Mandara is not accomodating of that world music wich makes you feel citizens of the world; not at all politically correct , it even gets near the combat folk and progressive in its extreme being.

It is more a coaugulation of ancestral voices wich the earth is not able to hold and throws out in unpredictable forms.
