PRESS for "SCENTS":

".A sonic flavor that continues to evolve into its own unique mutant strain on the trio's full-length debut, Scents. Across nine new cuts, MakeUpBreakUp employ more guitars and give songs like "My Way, to the Top" and "Better Days" a sense of grit its prior EPs never achieved. It's a hint of what Duran Duran might have sounded like had they recorded for SST instead of Capitol Records. "
-PopMatters
"MakeUpBreakUp's first full-length, Scents, mashes moments of teenage angst against tantalizing hooks that brave the revival of some of the best power pop of the past. "
-Venus Zine

"MakeupBreakup is something between interesting and dirty. On one hand, this album makes me feel like I'm listening to power-pop from the 90s. On the other hand, this makes me want to go to a show and get turned down by stuck up hipster girls. In either case, this music is definitely emotive… to say the least."
-402 Productions

[NOTE: This writer definitely wants to fuck us up.] "this is a band for teens to twenty-five year olds who've recently discovered The Faint, The Hills, who purchase their skinny jeans from Pete Wentz' clothing line and believe anal sex is ok on the first date."
-FLABmag

PRESS for "We Prefer Not To.":

"Fall Into Her Love Trap" and "Blame Game" would have been perfect if they came out in the 1980's and filmmaker John Huges needed a song for a Molly Ringwald montage in one of his teen angst movies.Makeupbreakup embodies that intellectual yet playful aesthetic on "We Prefer Not To."
-Outburn Magazine

With more than a tip of the synth drum in the direction of Depeche Mode , New Order , Numan and Visage the duo are a deadly combination of the first wave of electronic pop and the 21st century MDMA fueled wave of electroclash." -The Devil Has The Best Tuna

"With a sound that somehow mixes "Golden Years" David Bowie with the best aspects of Depeche Mode, catchy hooks made up of Moog riffs so sweet they should come with a FDA warning for diabetics are just a given."-Popwreckoning

BIO:
Forming in 2007 in Providence, Rhode Island, MakeupBreakup has been steadily calculating their rise. Soon after uniting, Mikeylams and Zan (former members of A Trillion Barnacle Lapse) signed to California's S.A.F. Records for the release of "We Prefer Not To…", their debut EP. Released on August 19th, 2008, "We Prefer Not To…" received widespread acclaim, being sonically linked to New Order, John Hughes soundtracks, and "Golden Years" Bowie, culminating in a glossy spot in Outburn Magazine. Local recognition was also in order, as The Providence Phoenix named "We Prefer Not To…" among the best local albums of the year and the band as one of the area's premiere acts. Similar success followed on radio, with the EP charting as high as 120 on the CMJ 200 charts, holding its ground for more than a month. The boys have continually supported the EP on the road, with multiple tours under their belts, and opening slots for acts such as Inner Party System, Diplo, and Health.
On August 31st, 2010, MakeupBreakup released their debut LP, "SCENTS", a nine song masterclass written, recorded, and produced by the band itself. The LP found a home on Cozy Music, with press/promotion by Dave Clifford of the US/THEM Group. The release was followed by more touring, which saw the boys making it rain like it was no business. Two of the LP's singles made headway on Amazon and Sprint.com, charting highly as freely available downloads, and publishing deals were signed.
Looking forward to 2011, MakeupBreakup have been in the lab, writing and demoing 10 new tracks which will comprise their sophomore LP entitled "THE ITALIAN NIGHTMARE". The material shows the band experimenting with a darker, more raw sound, reminiscent of their post-punk roots. Release date and label TBA.if you are interested in helping out with the release, hit us up.
