Tribal Man Magz - ‘And were doing it Tribal’

East London has proven to be a shining platform for some of the UK’s most talented music artists. Newcomer Tribal Man Magz, having already made his footprint throughout 2009, is said to be one of the biggest acts for the year ahead of us. Being the creator of the big dance hit ‘Tribal Man Skank’, Magz along with other UK artists, enabled the Funky House scene to take its cause within the UK. Labelled as the UK’s version of Soulja Boy’s ‘Crank That’ the ‘Tribal Man Skank’ has been viewed by hundreds and thousands worldwide on Youtube alone.

With the forthcoming release of his Electro remake of ‘Tribal Man Skank’, Magz is definitely set to keep the UK dancing on their toes. With not just the one single to look forward too, Magz has already lined up his follow up single ‘Feelin Funky’ leaking from his partly finished album, titled ’21 Dares’. Having become one of the UK’s best Funky performers, along side Donaeo and cousin Gracious K, Magz has decided its time to share his talents and charisma with the rest of the music industry. With his eager passion, recording new material daily, Magz is preparing to attract audiences from other genres by experimenting with different styles of music, to establish his own unique sound. Along with his varied musical influences from Dizzee Rascal, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, Michael Jackson and Sway, Magz will surely stand out from the crowd and astound music lovers.

Coming from an extremely musical background, it was only a matter of time before Magz fell into his talented pool. Discovering his passion for music was no shock, seeing as he is the nephew of infamous Ghanaian music star, Daddy Lumba. Initially starting off in the Grime scene, his interests began in 2004, when hearing the likes of Tinchy Stryder, D Double E and Griminal in his own school playground. Then being known as ‘Magma Man’, his time within the underground music game was a success, having appeared on many pirate radio stations such as Axe FM, Flava FM and digital station Urbantingz.com. Most of this success was generated by the establishment of his music label ‘Down & Dirty’, whereby Magma and his collective released a track titled ‘Prepare to Rewind’, earning ‘Down & Dirty’ the titles of ‘Best Up & Coming’ for the Urban Fusion Awards and ‘Best Newcomer’ for the British African Music Awards in 2008.

From Grime to Funky, Magma to Magz, the release of the ‘Tribal Man Skank’ dance tutorial was the turning point in his career. The song and dance was released in February, by March 2009 everyone knew all the words and steps. The song is still receiving continuous plays by every UK Funky DJ and is amongst the top three ‘Skank’ songs along with KIG’s ‘Head, Shoulders, Kneez and Toez, and Gracious K’s ‘Migraine Skank’. Having had University and club tours up and down the UK, radio plays and appearances on BBC 1xtra, Choice FM and Kiss, it’s fair to say a Funky Star is in the making! With many future performances across the country and the release of his first single, Tribal Man Magz will be busy spreading his tribal vibes across dance floors everywhere.
