One of the most wonderful stories to happen in the Hip-Hop community in a very long time is now unfolding. A 23-year-old inner-city youth from the Bushwick section of Brooklyn and aspiring rapper, MAGZ (Shelvin Francis), has become the official "Poster Artist" for UNICEF's (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) global AIDS awareness campaign. MAGZ began his music career about two years ago, and a year later signed on with SoundScope Music, an independent Hip-Hop And R&B label in New York City . Shortly thereafter, SoundScope was contacted by UNICEF who was interested in a positive rap song depicting the AIDS conflict worldwide. Aware that UNICEF had many other well known artists competing for this song, MAGZ wasted no time in writing and recording his new UNICEF single. His artistic effort was rewarded when his song, "People Are You Listening," was chosen to represent UNICEF's new global campaign. Subsequently, UNICEF commissioned a video of his original song. On Oct. 25th, the Children's AIDS awareness program was presented at the United Nations by Bill Roedy (the president of MTV International), who acknowledged MAGZ and his connection to UNICEF's efforts to better combat this deadly disease by educating children worldwide. This campaign represents UNICEF's $50 million commitment (Source Crain's New York Business) to a five year global AIDS awareness program. MAGZ is honored to be the "Poster Artist" for this worthy cause. MAGZ mission as a goodwill ambassador is to get the message out through UNICEF's "Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS" campaign by going directly into the classrooms world wide of children ages 12 to 17. This age group is most likely to contract this deadly and destructive disease.
