Great compelling music full of surprises - Jazz to be experienced in the moment!

OUR NEW CD BAD HABITS IS OUT!

BAD HABITS was the obvious choice of title for a sequel to GOOD HABITS. We realized that we not always want to be good and behave! Time for some boyish pranks like: Kite-Flying on Open Roofs, Playing with Electricity and Throwing Litter. Check out the new tracks in our MySpace player!
Previous CD GOOD HABITS available from:
www.imogena.se
GOOD HABITS: The songs are all part of a nine-piece suite with titles borrowed from a series of pictures on an Indian educational poster entitled Good Habits. It shows a model youngster of about nine or ten performing his daily tasks, starting with Early to Rise and ending, naturally, with Early to Bed. In between there are other obligations to be carried out, such as Daily Bath and School Going.
"This music is brilliant!" - Swedish Music Magazine LIRA
“One of last year’s most interesting jazz records was Magnus Nystrm Trio’s Good Habits” – SMLANDSPOSTEN
“All this in a faultless interplay which often resembles pure magic, the sensitive communication of the three, their humility and ability to wait for the exact tenth of a second.” – NERIKES ALLEHANDA
“The evening’s most eccentric contribution is, however, Magnus Nystrm’s Trio who, with complete abandon, criss-cross the musical spectrum with lines and links, from rock to folk-song, jazz to India.” – DAGENS NYHETER
"The group's sound and sensitive interplay combine perfectly" – UPPSALA NYA TIDNING
"Nystrm both uses and rejects convention, when for example a discreet acoustic guitar solo is broken by heavy blues phrases after which it reverts to plodding order. The group has a breadth in their approach in which both Lundberg and Skytt take over and broaden the field of play."
– ORKESTERJOURNALEN
"There is no denying that art and music have a long tradition of collaboration, but to be inspired by an Indian schoolposter to write jazz music must be something of a unique record." – LINKPINGS-POSTEN
Guitarist/composer Magnus Nystrm teams up with drummer Per Anders Skytt and bassplayer Johannes Lundberg to perform his own very personal blend of eclectic and innovative jazz.

Also check out the CD:s with Magnus Nystrm Band on www.imogena.se . They are made with a quintet, adding two saxophones to the trio format. On the first, Kirkedam, the saxes are played by Johan Borgstrm and Johnny Enqvist, while the second, Tapto, features Joakim Rolandson and Bjrn Almgren.

"I feel very fortunate to have such exceptional musicians in my trio. Johannes is a very
dynamic bass player; a forceful groove keeper as well as a lyrical soloist. He has a highly refined musical understanding, constantly providing inspiring input to compositions and improvisations. All of this can also be said of Per Anders. In addition he is a hard working, stubborn man who never gives up until his drumming exactly matches the intent of
the song. In the case of my often all but obvious compositions, this is a very valuable asset. Both musicians possess all the qualities I appreciate in a band member: sensitivity, fearlessness, dedication and a great sense of humour." - Magnus Nystrm
"I have always been a great fan of Magnus' music - truly one of Sweden's most exciting composers! His writing skill allows him to move effortlessly between jazz, rock and Indian classical music (to name but a few components). This fusion of many different musical styles results, paradoxically, in a final product which is refreshingly liberated from any isms and provides an ideal springboard for improvisation when searching for more than the mainstream!"
- Per Anders Skytt (drums)
