You've seen him rock you all night long and you've heard him push you till the break of dawn. MACCA's name is synonymous with hard hitting, explosive and unique house music.but do you really know who lies behind the name? Do you know what lies behind the face? For an artist with such a young and innovative sound, you might be surprised to hear that his journey began well over 10 years ago, and to date, he still sees no end in sight. Over the years, Joe Perri has seen his material released on such fine labels as Ultra Records, Hed Kandi, Thrive, In-Stereo, Blow Media, Eye Industries, Hotbox Digital, and many others. Today he's championing a new sound in electro/tech-house, courtesy of his own label, Invasive Recordings.
After humble beginnings in rave MCing and breaks production in 1999, MACCA was awarded a Juno Award (comparable to the American Grammys) for Dance Recording of the Year in 2006 for his collaboration with Hatiras on Spanish Fly while garnering a second nod in the same category for a track under their shared Da Skunk guise. In the years leading up to 2006 MACCA had already seen his popularity climb steadily, but it seemed like 2006 was truly his year to shine. With the double Juno nomination and subsequent Juno award, his popularity began to skyrocket as he elevated his super stardom to new levels; And it showed.in his international bookings, his chart topping releases and the success his tracks have seen in digital download stores. His easygoing personality and hard working attitude have allowed him to interact and work with some of the world's top DJs and producers.
When asked what inspires him, MACCA wittingly admitted that his greatest inspiration 'are odd noises that were never intended to be used in a musical context'. Quite a strange admission, but when you peel back the intricate layers of his musical progression, one thing has remained constant: this nearly subconscious use of eclectic pseudo-instruments. From his humble beginnings spent annoying family members in the bedroom hallway in 1999, MACCA's love for the creative process afforded by musical production has left an indelible marking on his sound. From his turbo powered Pentium 100 personal computer to his prized gear collection of today, his sound is a constant evolution of club fanfare, underground funk and freestyle flow. With every chart topping, collar popping, hand raising song he releases, MACCA continues to break new ground by experimenting with new sounds, textures, and tones, while crossbreeding key elements from other musical genres into what can only be considered, the MACCA sound.
MACCA has managed to continuously improve and evolve his sound over the past decade, and by combining his surroundings into his art he's proven that the sound he his honing is one of passion, love and respect. It's no coincidence he's been picked up by elite labels, flown across the world to perform in front of thousands of party goers and charted by just about every DJ worth mentioning.
