It's not very often that an individual comes along with all the intangibles, gifts and influences needed for you to realize that they are created for one particular craft Multi-talented singer/songwriter/musician/producer/choreographer/dancer Lukay knew that he had a gift for music before he even began to sing. Growing up in a home where music from the late 60s, 70s & 80's was predominantly played, he became obsessed with singing at a very early age. Lukay would always watch other musicians play in church and there was something that drew him to the bass guitar.
At the age of 10 he began playing the bass guitar himself despite the fact that he broke the church's bass guitar string and was told to stay away from it. Music felt natural to Lukay and his dad gave him the opportunity to develop his talent through, meeting musicians in different churches, and being exposed to other cultures. At the age of 12, Lukay played with older musicians from other churches and his ability to play by ear and catching on to anything he heard made him one of the most requested musicians. He actively participated in the choir by both playing and singing. This helped to teach him music theory soul concepts of harmony and at the young age of 14, Lukay was appointed music director for his church.
In middle school Lukay started listening to a variety of music including R&B, Pop and Soul. Some of these artists included, Boys II Men, Dru Hill, Usher, and Brandy. But still kept in touch with the roots of music, the oldies (50s, 60s, 70s & 80's). He didn't realize that he wanted to pursue music professionally until the age of 16. His father had always told him that his gift was music, but he had dreams of being in the NBA. After being the superstar of his basketball team in middle school, those dreams came to an end when Lukay did not make the final cut for his high school basketball team which led him back to his first love - music.
Lukay joined an R&B group where he developed his vocal skills and knowledge of song-writing and arranging. His ability to adjust as a writer/arranger became evident; he later started to write for people. In 2002, Lukay began his first co-production project as a bass-guitarist. Shortly after, Lukay was called to perform in Canada at annual "Youth Festival of Montreal". Lukay blew the crowed away with his lovely voice and his dancing skills. As predicted, Lukay was asked to come the second year, and once again blew everyone away with his creativity, energy, style and concepts of his performance, and let us not forget that he also made the choreography of the performances that he's done. The more he performed, the more people would request him.
In 2006, after blowing the crowds of Montreal all the way to Florida, he decided to focus on his writing which led him to write songs for other successful artist such as European MTV Award winner Karl Wolf, Canadian artist Jodie Resther to name a few. He also has collaborated with Grammy Award Winner Producer "Dark Child" and many other producers around the Globe. Lukay would like the music industry and the artists in the industry to strivefor a higher standard morally while not compromising the energy, creativity, expression, and sensuality among other factors that help music take root in the soul of people. When you have art where light expresses the artist and the artist is forever looking to express the light through his emotions, it brings about something complete, whole, and consuming.
The variety of grooves makes it easy to listen to at any moment (the groove of modern day swing music) and his songs present situations that everyone can relate to. "Music is about life. Everyone has some type of spiritual belief, but at the end of the day live life. Don't become slaves to the things that are here, but enjoy life and try to better yourself". Lukay is aiming at for the top and he will not stop until he reaches it Welcome to his journey, buckle up, it's going be a long ride.
