Lucha Villa

Luz Elena Ruiz Bejarano, real name of Lucha Villa, was born in Camargo; Chihuahua, Mexico on November 30, 1936.

In 1960, she went to an audition for a play that required 12 tall and talented dancers. She was picked as one of them. The same producer of the play decided to promote two Ranchera music song performers (a female and a male). The female this producer had in mind didn't show up to do her debut so Luz Elena asked the promoter for an opportunity since she was convinced she could sing and had the passion for this music. In 1961, she recorded her first including songs of composers like Ruben Fuentes, Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Tomas Mendez taking the artistic name of "Lucha Villa".

In 1962, she appeared on her first movie "El terror de la Frontera". The she did six more movies in the same year. In 1964 she played "La Caponera" in the movie "El Gallo de Oro" (The Golden Rooster), one of her favorite movies.

Lucha Villa was the first Ranchera Singer who wore a mini skirt while singing this type of songs.

She was recognized and given an award in Los Angeles, CA. in 1963. During 12 consecutive years she was awarded for being the best seller in the music industry.

Lucha Villa won the Ariel as Best Actress on a leading role in "Mecanica Nacional" in 1971, a classic Mexican Film and another Ariel as Best Supporting Actress in "The Place Without Limits" in 1978. She also won two Diosas de Plata, three Heraldos, and few more awards.

She got married 5 times, had 3 kids, worked in 72 films, 4 musicals, recorded 300 simple discs, 200 double discs, and 60 LP's.

In 1997, she decided to get a liposuction procedure. She suffered a severe brain damage from a medial negligence. For now, Lucha Villa is away from the show business since she is living in her daughter's ranch in San Luis Potosi, Mexico as part of her therapy tohat includes walking 4 miles a day, get fresh air, enjoy the nature and all the animals they have in their farm.
