"Lowfish's music is deceptively simple, enormously catchy modern electro, eschewing currently fashionable
digital trickery for good old analog skills" XLR8R
"Lowfish is a master of his art, pure emotion wrought out of electricity and machines, all done in a uniquely futuristic styling [he] is renowned for" BI-WIRE
"Referencing Detroit techno, Italo-disco, and the synthpop of Speak and Spell era Depeche Mode, Lowfish's full-spectrum electro nonetheless has a quality all its own. Lowfish's world is a pastoral Eden of bumblebee love songs and sentient machines chorusing in perfect harmony's"
EARPLUG
"Forget the watered-down schlock that passes for electro these days-this is pure, unadulterated synth music, and it rules"
VICE
Lowfish is perhaps one of Canada's most prominent electronica producers. His clinical production style is both very "new school" and built on the DNA of early new wave and IDM. Sometimes dark, often melodic and catchy - Lowfish tracks always strive for timelessness and quality while trying hard to steer clear of fashion and flavour of the month technology. The weapons of choice are what they have been from the start - semi-operational analog synthesizers, temperamental drum machines and scratchy recording gear. The name Lowfish was inpired by these dusty machines. The result being a production aesthetic that is lo-fi "ish", thus Lowfish.
Lowfish has released 6 full-length albums and a stack of singles on labels including Suction Records, Ersatz Audio, Vynalogica, City Centre Offices and Satamile, with scores of remixes and compilations appearances for respected imprints around the globe including Morr Music, Ghostly International, Turbo Recordings, and even the National Film Board of Canada. In 2005 Lowfish began producing music for Film and Television and had his unique brand of "precision drum machine electro-pop" included in independent films and featured on numerous BBC Television and news shows.
Lowfish live has turned out to be a dancefloor menace. He has brought his unique mix of electro and industrial-strength robo-disco to dance floors around the world. He has toured with Solvent, Skanfrom and Adult., and shared the stage with the likes of Silicon Scally, Tiga, 2manyDj's, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Bola, Ulrich Schnauss, Legowelt, and Ectomorph to name a few.
2006 saw Lowfish release "Persuasive Science", a punishing 12" on New York's seminal Satamile label, a CD on Germany's Hymen Records as part of the Travel Sickness box set and various tracks on labels including Holland's Creme Organization and Belgium's N.E.W.S. 2007 saw Lowfish release "Burn The Lights Out" (Satamile) which reached number 11 in the CMJ (College Music Journal) RPM charts in the United States and number 7 on college radio in Canada.
October 14, 2008 saw the release of Lowfish’s most complex, most brooding and most cohesive album to date. "Frozen&Broken", on Canada's Noise Factory Records, is 10 tracks of "perfectly formed midnight techno variants, electro themes to a blade runner-esque metropolis and updated Artificial Intelligence era IDM. The playful robotics of yesteryear is well in place, but it’s the fine detail of machinery and staccato bass that now take the fore. This is a record steeped in the craft of electronic music that strives to work both on and off the dance floor." Lowfish will releasing a new record of older unreleased material called "Memories Are Uncertain Friends", mid 2010
