Louisa Gaylard is a young singer songwriter from the heart of Suffolk. At a young age she became interested in music from being surrounded by her dad's record collection. When Louisa was 10 she started learning classical guitar, this never really interested her so, at the age of 11, she tried moving on to electric guitar. Through learning new techniques like chords and playing and singing at the same time Louisa started songwriting, early influences include Avril Lavigne and Kurt Cobain. She entered a number of talent shows in primary and secondary school and experimented with a few bands.
But eventually she discovered a type of guitar that she was passionate about playing, the steel string. The steel string guitar bought a more organic and dynamic style to Louisa's songwriting and made her turn to more acoustic influences like Frank Turner, Turin Brakes and Jack Jonson. The possession of an old tape recorder and later Garageband (recording software) on a mac, really helped Louisa record originals and improve on vocals harmonies. The next stage was a studio recording. Louisa had been going to jam nights ever since she was 14 and George Fothergill (from The Steamboat Jam Night) gave her the opportunity to record in a studio. She recorded her debut EP at CSV Studios in Ipswich in 2006, it was named 'Hippy Hill' after a hill in a local park.
Hippy Hill sold steadily and Louisa kept writing, starting to focus on lyrics now. She would take time in french lessons to write and analyze lyrics working out how the fitted together, it became poetry inside a song. Lyrics finally started to mean something and express thoughts and feelings. Shortly after the release of Hippy Hill, Louisa started to organize gigs, as well as playing them, she always felt that a lot of gigs local bands played were unjust, they were normally badly organized and bands didn't get paid. Louisa set out to change that and has now organized about 8 nights overall, booking her favorite bands from the Suffolk Scene, whilst playing herself. Mid 2007, Louisa met Debs Warren. Debs played a massive role in Louisa's development by coaching her in not only singing but songwriting too, it helped her gain confidence and improved her voice and from knowing Debs, Louisa also got to know Deb's partner Rich Burrow. This led to the release of the album 'Point?' in 2007 which Rich engineered and helped Louisa produce.
Currently Louisa is attending the Academy of Contemporary Music where she studying vocals and performance. She is working on a new album which she will be recording this summer and hopes to get it released around Christmas time.
