Presentación tras presentación sobre los escenarios mexicanos y de otros países, el grupo Los Cojolites se ha transformado en uno de los grupos emblemáticos de la renovación del son jarocho, expresión musical tradicional de las costas del sur de Veracruz. La interpretación renovada de estos músicos combina las armonías ancestrales con efectos rítmicos que conducen a improvisaciones de una enorme originalidad.
Los Cojolites nacen hace quince años como parte de un proyecto cultural dedicado a recuperar las expresiones artísticas y culturales de los antiguos pobladores indígenas en el municipio de Cosoleacaque. Cosoleacaque en lengua nahua quiere decir "en el cerro de los Cojolites" aves sagradas, dios del amanecer de los antiguos pobladores del sur de Veracruz, México. La región fue asentamiento de los antiguos Olmecas, luego de nahuas y popolucas, y en un pasado más reciente la colonización europea, que a su vez trajo consigo la influencia de la música arábiga y la de los negros que llegaron a Veracruz a trabajar en las plantaciones. De esta mezcla nace hace trescientos años el son jarocho, un género musical que identifica a esta zona.
Hace 10 años Los Cojolites inician su trabajo en los escenarios al grabar su primer CD llamado El Conejo, nombre de un son antiguo casi desconocido y que es parte del Soundtrack de Frida, la película ganadora al Oscar por su música. A partir de entonces inician presentaciones en Alemania, Canadá, Francia, España, ha sido el único grupo de son jarocho en el festival WOMAD de Inglaterra. Han estado en Cuba, en Estados Unidos en donde se han presentado en escenarios importantes de Los Ángeles, San Francisco, Washington, Chicago y muchas ciudades más donde además el grupo ha colaborado con instituciones culturales enseñando a ejecutar su música. A lo largo de estos diez años han sido parte de los grandes escenarios en su país México. En 2008 graban su segundo disco llamado No tiene Fin, en donde participa Lila Downs como artista invitada. En noviembre de 2009 iniciaron la grabación de su tercer disco en San Francisco CA, y que estarán terminando a mediados de 2010, teniendo como invitada a Susana Baca, de Perú, con quienes compartieron escenario en el festival que Los Cojolites hacen en el pueblo de Jáltipan, donde radican.
Los Cojolites han compartido escenario con grandes artistas de su país como Eugenia León, La Maldita Vecindad, Panteón Rococó, Lila Downs… en el extranjero con Zack de la Rocha, los Ozomatli…

Show after show, on stages across Mexico and the world, Los Cojolites have become an emblem for the renaissance of Son Jarocho, the traditional musical expression from the coast of southern Veracruz. Their music blends ancestral harmonies with rhythmic effects that lead to highly original improvisations.
Los Cojolites came together fifteen years ago as part of a project in the municipality of Cosoleacque whose goal was to recover the artistic and cultural expressions of the indigenous people of the region. Cosoleacaque in the nahua language means "on the hill of the Cojolites". This bird was considered to be the god of the rising sun by the ancient settlers of southern Veracruz. The region was settled by the ancient Olmecs, subsequently by the Nahua and Popoluca peoples, and more recently by the Spanish colonizers. The Spanish brought with them their music, influenced by 700 years of Moorish occupation, as well as black slaves to work on plantations. It was the meeting of these many cultures, 300 years ago, that gave birth to Son Jarocho, the music which is indentified with this region.
Ten years ago, Los Cojolites started their stage career recording their first album "El Conejo". The title of this record comes from an old, almost unknown "son" (song) which appears on the album, as well as on the soundtrack for the movie Frida, which won an Oscar for its music. Since then, they have played in Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Cuba and are the only son jarocho group to have ever played at the WOMAD festival in England. They have also performed in the United-States in Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Washington, Chicago and many other cities, where, asides from simply playing, the group has also collaborated with cultural institutions giving music and dance workshops. Throughout there ten year career Los Cojolites have also been present on the main stages of Mexico. In 2008 they recorded their second album called "No tiene fin", with Lila Downs as a guest artist. In November of 2009 the band started recording their third album in San Francisco CA., scheduled for release in mid 2010. This album will feature the Peruvian signer Susana Baca, with whom they shared the stage during a music festival they organise in their home town of Jáltipan.
Los Cojolites have shared the stage with major artists from Mexico like Eugenia León, La Maldita Vecindad, Pantéon Rococó, Lila Downs and internationally with artists like Zach de la Rocha (lead singer of the rock group Rage Against the Machine) and Ozomatli.
