Welcome back to another YOU Can Beatbox tutorial. Today we’ll be wrapping up our lip roll miniseries with the inward lip roll oscillation [demo]. This sound is a great extension of what we’ve learned about lip rolls until now. Let’s do it. Like the last tutorial, if you haven’t watched the previous tutorials on the basic lip roll and the inward lip roll, you’ll have difficulty finding success with this sound so pause this video and watch those before continuing with this one.
This sound takes the the inward lip roll [demo] and adds new depth. If you remember from the inward lip roll, a key element was not using any of the power from your lungs to get the sound. The lip roll oscillation ignores that rule to give a new sound. So take the inward lip roll position of opening on side of your mouth and try breathing in. That should be all that it takes to get the lip roll oscillation because you’ve already laid the ground work with the lip roll and inward lip roll.
With that in mind, and hopefully you’ve gotten the sound down, there is one element that I want to emphasize about this sound: the inward bass drum. I may end up doing an entirely separate tutorial on this sound but I wanted to share it with you now because of how powerful it can be. The inward bass drum sounds similar to the normal bass drum because it gets that same low sound but instead of breathing out air, you bring it into your mouth [demo]. Making the sound should be simple: like most sounds, build up pressure and release it inwards. And that’s that. The inward bass drum’s real strength comes when you pair it with the lip roll oscillation. While you can just start the lip roll oscillation by breathing in, spending the extra split second to add the inward bass drum changes the sound drastically [demo]. Again, do you and work for the sound that you’re looking for and ask any questions you have in the comments below or on twitter.
Well, let’s do two practice beats:
Brr^ B Pf B B Pf
Brr^^ Pf Brr^ Pf
Like the inward K, you might inhale some saliva when learning this osund which is gross, but soldier on to get this sound. That’s all I’ve got for this video so thanks for watching. If you need help, hit me up in the comment section below or on twitter. Thanks for watching, this has been YOU Can Beatbox and next time we’ll be learning
