Biography:
When Lindsay Rush steps onstage with a guitar, with her relaxed confidence and Mod-inspired outfit, one is a likely to assume that this girl will perform and sound just like numerous others before her.
But as she begins to sing, it becomes clear that Lindsay Rush is in fact, different. With her energetic, emotion-filled songs, her clear and strong voice, she seems to channel iconic artists such as Shawn Colvin, Susanna Hoffs, and Michelle Branch. In playing solo acoustic, her performances consist of much more power than would be expected from one young girl with a guitar. In between each catchy, thoughtfully crafted song, audiences are treated to Lindsay’s dry, quick wit and humorous stories of life on the road.
Given her unique approach to live shows, it will come as no surprise that she is equally business-savvy as she is a great performer. It has been these qualities combined, that have led to Lindsay finding herself – an independent artist – living on tour buses, performing at famous venues all over the United States and Canada with the likes of Joe Cocker, Styx, Lisa Loeb, The Bangles, Rick Springfield, and Pat Benatar.
“You won’t find anyone who works harder than Lindsay,” says rock legend, Pat Benatar, about the young artist who she now refers to as “another daughter.” (Lindsay has opened on Benatar’s last three tours). “It seems like Lindsay can have anything she wants,” states renowned drummer, Kenny Aronoff. “I’m a big fan,” declares Eric Bazilian, the songwriter who penned Joan Osborne’s hit, “One of Us.”
With songs like “Cheater, Cheater” and “Studio Apartment,” Lindsay shows off both her talent for writing and her ability to plug into what people are feeling and thinking in today’s challenging and fast moving world. “When I write, I want to be a voice for people who feel like they don’t have one,” Lindsay states. Songs like “Odd Girl Out” and “All the Pretty Things” (a song from the viewpoint of a child with Autism) serve as a prime examples of her understanding of diverse situations and emotions.
Surrounded by praise and admiration from her idols and a devoted and growing fan base, Lindsay still holds close, the memory of a time when things were different. There was a time not long ago, when her peers were not rock stars and heavy-hitting music industry professionals, but high school students. It was during that time that Lindsay turned to songwriting as an outlet.
“I needed a way to express my thoughts and feelings, and I needed something that was only mine,” Lindsay recalls.
Soon, Lindsay began playing the guitar and could be found at various clubs near her home in the artsy community of New Hope, Pennsylvania. Her love for creating her own music soon turned into a burning passion for performing and touring, as she began to learn more and more about the business that would become synonymous with her life.
This turning point in Lindsay’s life has inspired her to encourage other people to empower themselves by turning negative emotions into positive creativity. In 2004, Lindsay became a national spokesperson for Mental Health Awareness and created a school concert tour that has allowed her to travel all over the country, inspiring kids and helping educators reach their students in a more unique and powerful way. Her school tour has won various awards, including one given by Mental Health America in Washington, D.C. While on tour in Maryland, the mayor of the town of Gaithersburg declared October 5th “Lindsay Rush Day,” in honor of her work with the community’s youth.
In the fall of 2009, Lindsay also took on the role of Bully Prevention spokesperson, by teaming up with several organizations and national campaigns. She recently got together with much sought after songwriting team, The Gyrlz (Daughtry, Hilary Duff) to write a song entitled, “Odd Girl Out.” The song has received attention and praise from the likes of best-selling author and Bully Prevention spokesperson, Rachel Simmons.
In 2010, Lindsay has made the three thousand mile move from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. She is writing with several highly respected songwriters and is currently pitching her songs to Platinum-selling artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Faith Hill, and Britney Spears, and has recently received interest from projects like Hannah Montana & ABC Family. Her name is quickly becoming well-known among music supervisors and A&R executives.
Most recently, Lindsay completed her fourth national tour with Pat Benatar, as well as REO Speedwagon. Polish arecording artist, Honey, has cut Lindsay's song "Cyberbully," which she co-wrote with Eric Bazilian. She has also recently secured representation through the renowned agency, William Morris Endeavor.
Lindsay’s goal is to write for and eventually produce and publish music for top recording artists, as well as continuing to use her music to stand up for those in need.
With a loyal fan base online and around the world, and a growing song catalogue, it seems that Lindsay Rush can achieve anything she sets her mind to.
