50% Pop 50% Soul 50% Fun 50% Love. Of course, this adds up to more than 100%, but so does the songwriting, musicianship, & production on the new EP! Available on iTunes & cdBaby.com right now!
Considered a late bloomer amongst her peers, Liane only recently began pursuing music as a career. Although she had no formal training in voice or guitar, she wrote & produced her first acoustic demo under the stage name "Lady L" in 2008. "Peace, love, & soul', proved popular with the conscious hip hop & neo-soul crowds, but not quite enough to captivate the general public.
With that in mind, the latter half of 2009 was an incubation period for a newer sound. "I wanted something timeless but not old, meaningful but fun, & with good songwriting, but still soulful." The songs were completed within a couple months, but the search for a producer was a long journey. "I was just about to give up. I met with some great producers, but something in me just couldn't make a final decision. Then I met Randy Wine, heard his work, & knew right away that he was my guy."
The sessions took place at MoonWine Studios (LA) in Spring 2010 & included Matt Lucich on drums, Aron Forbes on guitar, William "Matty" Taylor on bass, Alex Burke & Jonathan Schanes on keys, & Toby Karlin on sax/flute. WIth Randy Wine & her entourage of musicians, the result was a perfect blend of pop/soul, & extremely fun & memorable times in the studio.
Although 100% Japanese in ethnicity, Liane was born & raised as a "local girl" in Hawaii. Surfing, hula dancing, & outdoor sports occupied most of her free time growing up in paradise, but it wasn't until her early 20's that she discovered a passion for music & began to explore her natural singing talent. Although pure in vocal tone, listeners are often surprised by her soulful style. Liane is currently based in LA.
