Liah Alonso

Born in California and brought up in Mexico City and the USA, Liah is a songwriter and whose openness and raw emotional performances have reached audiences around the world. Once labeled a misfit and an outcast, Liah's music reflects a life story that asserts her belief in the transformative healing power of music.
Liah has been singing and playing guitar professionally for 2 years now. But this wasn't always the case.
While pursing a Media Studies degree at NYU education, Liah earned her living as a Spanish/English interpreter for Children's Social Services and Ryker's Island State Penitentiary. Her curiosity for musical instruments led her to study piano, trombone, guitar, cello and kazoo. She collected instruments from all over the world and often began to incorporate them into her repertoire. Her favorite of instrument in her collection is a guitar made out of an oil can that she purchased in a flea market in South Africa. Her travels in Asia, Africa and Latin America, along with her studies in media and culture at New York University, assert her passion for human rights and her work as an activist. She feels most blessed to be able to make her living singing songs and working with Left on Red to bring positive music into the world.
