About Leif Searcy
Leif began playimg drums at an early age as his father was timpanist of the “ La Scala Opera and Philarmonic Orchestra” and internationally renowned teacher.
He completed his studies under the guidance of Tullio DePiscopo, Jeffrey Boudreaux, Ettore Fioravanti amongst others achieving the Professional Diploma at the “American Institute of Music, Vienna and the “Siena Jazz” professional course.
During this period he started his musical formation, performing with Jazz, Fusion, Rock and Funk Bands in clubs around Germany. Austria and Italy.
After that, his professional career started by recording and touring with italian recording artist Carmen Consoli from 1995 – '99 performing at all great italian Rock Festivals such as “Heineken Jammin' Festival”, “Monza Rock Festival”, “Sonoria”, “Beachbum Festival” and the “MTV DAY” just to mention a few, not to mention his appearence on Carmen's hit single video Eco di sirene.
As word spread about his talent and musicality he moved on to record and tour with other italian artists such as Malika Ayane, Paola e Chiara, Francesco Renga, Alberto Fortis, Luca DiRisio, Gemelli Diversi, Paolo Meneguzzi just to mention a few, backing also international artists such as Patti Smith, Ricky Martin, Shania Twain and Phil Collins on national Television and MTV, demonstrating his versatility in style and sound.
He has also performed “classically” in performances such as: Bartok, Bernstein, Ravel, Debussy and Gershwin.
Today he is involved in “Quarto” a jazz/funk quartet featuring keyboarder Enzo Messina (T.Trent D'Arby/Zucchero), Daniele Moretto on trumpet (883, Ligabue) and Italy's session great Paolo Costa on bass (Eros Ramazzotti etc.), who recently called up Leif to join Funk Band “Tom's Family” which also includes Giorgio Secco on Guitar (E.Ramazzotti, Mina).
Leif has performed regularly at Blue Note Club, Milan with the Luca Jurman Sunday Night Band with recording artists such as: Mario Biondi, Ivana Spagna, Paola e Chiara, Simona Bencini, Annalisa Minetti
Leif is head of the Drum department in music schools CLUSTER Milan and Musicolandia, Gallarate as well as part of the teaching staff at Milan’s Drum Store
