Brandon Greene aka Legacy was born in the Rust-Belt city of Buffalo, New York. Buffalo, once the nations leader in steel making and grain milling has been experiencing economic decline for decades. As opportunity left the city, so too did Legacy’s family. Relocating to the Tampa Bay area in 1992 to escape economic downturn in hopes of finding new beginnings when he was 14, Legacy experienced confusion and difficulty fitting in since he was from the north and was an outcast. He eventually found a teen drug-culture and party lifestyle to escape home turmoil. His parents were hard workers and did the best they could to keep things together, provide for the family and survive in new surroundings.
After several rebellious years skipping school, using drugs and partying constantly, Legacy experienced the love, forgiveness and the life-changing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in May of 1995. He left behind this life, being reminded that his life would leave a “Legacy” for life or for death. Almost immediately, he began telling everyone he knew about God’s life changing power and how it could also change theirs. Spreading Jesus Christ and pointing others to Him was such a natural concept that he began to use his musical talents as a means to share this hope and over time learned to share his faith personally, through music, lifestyle and everyday conversation.
Recognizing his lack of biblical depth in his music and ministry however and hands on ministry experience, Legacy then attended The School of Urban Missions (www.sum.edu) located in New Orleans, LA. In 2001 he received an Associate of Arts degree and is pursuing his BA in Biblical Studies. Brandon aka “Legacy,” served as Crossover’s Worship Team Coordinator, building and leading multiple worship teams, as well as giving leadership, training and providing mentoring/ ministry opportunity to current leaders and musicians.
His musical background began in radio at the age of 16 and has led him to be involved with radio, live DJing, Hip-Hop performances as an artist, as well as recording and production as the owner of his very own studio (Leg Up Music, LLC). Legacy has released two album, the first his debut album, “Green Light,” is an independent release of hip-hop music mostly self-produced. The first release of “Green Light” was presented by the Flavor Alliance, a hip-hop ministry out of Crossover Community Church in Tampa, Florida where he spent several years serving and developing his talents (2002-2005, '07-'09). In 2006 he also dropped an EP release “Strictly Business.” In 2007, he released the self-titled work, “LEGACY.”
Legacy has been involved in youth ministry since 1996, has ministered in prisons, housing projects and street ministries in New Orleans, homeless missions, and various street ministry experiences. From late 2004 until January of 2006, he and his wife Pam led “Higher Definition Youth Ministries” under Word of Life Foursquare Church in Tampa, Florida. Each week over 40 urban youth of many ethnic groups attended the Hip-Hop styled youth group. Brandon also led the worship on Sunday morning.
