Chantay "Legacy" Leonard, 30, is a Detroit based writer, performance poet and activist. Her literary work has been featured in Stanford University's "Black Arts Quarterly", Poetry Slam Inc.'s. "Women of the World Poetry Slam: Estrology", "The Bandana Republic" and other anthologies, online journals and stage productions.



As a spoken word artist, she has rocked stages with poetic icons The Last Poets, Amiri Baraka, and Jessica Care Moore. She has performed at numerous colleges, universities, festivals and showcases spanning from New York’s Bowery Poetry Club to California’s University of Santa Barbara. She is locally loved and nationally respected.



She is one of the founding members of Black Ink Collective and is the Vice President of Strange Fruits, Inc. a national all woman non-profit arts collective that mentors teenage girls through the creative arts. She is currently pursuing poetry and trying to woo it back into her embrace.
