There is something different about Lee Hester these days. "I think I am growing up", says Hester. "I feel like I am starting to understand what I want to do with my writing and how I want to approach it when I begin recording it."Lee's brand new full length studio album, UNDER THE CRASHING WAVES , has revealed more than just growth. In less than a year, songs from the record have been used seven times for TV/Film. As an independent artist, Lee has had over 25 feature TV/Film music placements with more on the horizon. His TV/Film success began with multiple placements in the very popular hit tv show Dawson's Creek . "I felt sort of like a pioneer for those successes. They were so early on on(hold it down and above all this were featured in season 6(2002)) that I'm almost certain there were only a handful of independent artists I knew of in nashville who were able to land a song in a tv show. It was a very eye opening experience for me to get the interest of a music supervisor at that level. At the time, Dawson's Creek was the biggest show on TV. I beat out some great artists and songs, I'm sure." Along with all of the TV/Film success that Lee has had, he always wants the music to speak for itself. The lyrical content tends to draw in the most common thread within all of the masses. It kind of makes what Lee does appealing and approachable to the majority of music listeners."I appreciate a song that can speak to anyone. I think they are the strongest ones and the most important ones out there. And every song i write has to carry that message or I dont put it out." Musically, it is more or less a journey for Lee. "Music doesn't change, but the way we present it does. This industry is always trying to find the new thing or the next big artist. I like that. For me, it's always about growing and changing. I like for my music to be moving in a positive direction so it has a greater impact. Music has to be relative to the moment it was written and performed in, but it also has to be relevant to the time the world is in when it hears it. That is very challenging, but challenging is also a very big part of making great music."A supervisor once told me after i asked him about specific needs for his show. He said and I quote, 'keep sending me great songs. I use great songs and am always looking for them. Don't worry about specifics, just make sure that they are great.'""I think that pretty much sums it up for me"
