South African born singer/songwriter Laura Reed has been captivating audiences and ears globally with her soulful vocals, vunerable songwriting, and electric live performances. Previously Known as the front woman of SouthEastern soul act Laura Reed & Deep Pocket. Laura is currently working on her debut solo album, "The Awakening", with 2X Grammy award winning producer/songwriter Shannon Sanders, best known for his work with Neo-soul artist India Arie.
Laura has been fortunate to have been mentored and personally inspired by some of music's greatest talents, including Whitney Houston who pulled Laura aside while recording to remind her that no matter what "never stop singing". This is advice Laura has taken to heart and personally made a mission with participation on projects with Legends such as George Clinton, Ike Stubblefield, Jewel, and Karl Denson.
Laura cites music as "my first Love and expression, and a universal language that we all speak. I hope others others are able to find healing and enjoyment from the experiences and insights expressed in my music". Laura will be taking a fresh approach to her music with the upcoming album, as well as her live show, in which she will be joined by Shannon Sanders as her musical director. Laura has spent time seasoning and "slow cooking" her musical recipe that is uniquely her own, and plans to share it world- wide as she embarks on this new journey in her career.
Journey has been a re-occuring theme for the songstress, beginning in Johannesburg South Africa, where she was born and lived her early childhood before moving to North Carolina. A performer since the age of 16, Laura's music is 'seasoned' by influences from her background and global travels (16 countries and 3 languages thus far) with hints of Samba, Reggae and African beats. Laura has been captivating audiences and ears for several years with her "slow cooked" soul music recipe, reminiscent of Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and the late Amy Winehouse.
Laura currently resides in Nashville Tennessee, where she was beaconed by mentor, Grammy award winning Producer, Paul Worley to come and hone her talents as an artist and songwriter. It was Paul who introduced Laura to Shannon Sanders, an introduction which has lead to Shannon co-writing and producing her entire upcoming album, and joining her on the road as musical director. The first single off her album "The Awakening", is the positive empowerment anthem "Faith not Fear", which was officially released Spring of 2012.
