A partir de ahora los libros de geografía van a tener que cambiar. Porque aunque el estado Norteamericano de Mississippi siga limitando al Norte con Tennessee, y al Este con Alabama, ahora al Sur lo hace con el barrio de San Pablo en Sevilla. Y es que es allí donde, por caprichos del destino, se revuelven al ritmo del mejor Funk 9 músicos más españoles que las papas con choco. Son "La Mula" Jamband.
Este tipo de formación, nada habitual por estas latitudes, parecía estar abocada a desaparecer de nuestros actuales horizontes musicales. En estos tiempos que corren, ¿qué compañía discográfica se atreve a promocionar bandas con más de cuatro o cinco miembros? ¿Qué rentabilidad podrían obtener?
Afortunadamente para nosotros, un sentido imparable del ritmo, un espíritu musical muy negro, y muchísimas ganas de hacer música de calidad, han tenido como resultado la creación de La Mula. No son ni un producto, ni un negocio. Sólo son músicos, y de los buenos. Y es que La Mula consigue con sus canciones transportarnos a esos lugares que vieron nacer a grandes señores del Funk como Joseph 'Smokey' Jonson, James Brown o Curtis Mayfield, o a épocas en las que los jóvenes se descoyuntaban bailando al ritmo de míticas bandas como Sly & The Family Stone, Funkadelic o Mandrill. Y todo ello sin tener que pasar por angustiosas aduanas o controles aeroportuarios yankis.
¿Por qué lo de "Jam Band"? Muy simple. En sus directos, La Mula no trata de repasar resabidos o trillados repertorios. Desde que aparecen sobre el escenario, el público vibra con ellos, y ellos se alimentan de la fuerza del auditorio. En sus actuaciones en vivo nos conquistan desde el primer minuto, y no hay un alma en la sala, empezando por ellos mismos (lo que es muy significativo), que no disfrute con el espectáculo. Es por esta razón que los organizadores del Festival Territorios Sevilla no han podido resistirse a este fenómeno musical, dándoles en la presente Edición 2010 la oportunidad de dejarnos a todos con la boca abierta en el concierto de presentación que arranca este año con la programación del Festival. En este concierto, que tendrá lugar el próximo día 21 de Mayo en el Teatro Alameda de Sevilla, La Mula calentará motores para que el americanísimo Eli "Paperboy" Reed, todo un fenómeno musical del panorama internacional, se encuentre con un público más que dispuesto cuando La Mula, con su pellizco, haya despertado el ritmo y la fantasía que todos llevamos dentro.
