With looks to kill and a voice to match, Lacy Younger sings about love and life's lessons. Still Wild, the singer/songwriter's debut CD on Big Deal/Hyena Records is an open rockin' book on all of the above and surviving the ride. She connects the dots between soaring rock anthems and gorgeous pop balladry with a lick of southern blues on either end which makes it all so tasty. A powerful presence on stage, Lacy is no stranger to the spotlight. "I started taking requests at age three. My Grandma, Goldie, would come grab me out of bed, stand me on the coffee table and insist that I sing for party guests." By age five she began writing songs on the piano, "Writing and performing have always been my favorite form of self expression," says Lacy. "I was fifteen years old when I joined my first band and started singing in some of the local clubs by age sixteen." The following year at 17 Lacy moved to L.A. and began singing and arranging background vocals, demos and the occasional jingle. Being a songwriter first, Nashville was a natural progression for Lacy. In the 90's she spent most of her time honing her craft in a town where the song is king and a Viking princess gets plenty of attention. Music City loved her singing style and song sensibility and Lacy was quickly offered several publishing deals. But there were also several labels interested in her as an artist and she ultimately signed with one that called her back to Los Angeles. Still it wasn't Lacy's time and she experienced the heartbreak of unfulfilled professional dreams when her 1998 release was dropped. She returned home to San Diego and the musical landscape that shaped her childhood. "I'm one of those who believe things happen for a reason, so I knew there was something better around the bend," explains Lacy. "I was just a bit impatient about getting around the proverbial corner." Around that corner and a few miles west of The Sunset Strip awaited Val Garay and a new beginning. Lacy joined forces with the Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer, (Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, and Kim Carnes) and brought Still Wild to fruition. "Making this record was a great experience," says Lacy. "If you have to call me something, I'm happy with being called Americana or Country-Rock or whatever!" As she says in her song "Broken Hearts Broken Bones": "They say is it country or rock and roll? I say honey, can't you see it's SOUL, that I'm wearin' right here,…. out on my sleeve…" Lacy has a vocal prowess that can go from zero to sixty in a nano second. Like on "Broken Heart Broken Bones," she sticks it with an empowering verve, then quickly changes gears, delivering "Didn't I" with a sultry, sensitive vocal not to be expected. "'Didn't I" was a song written about reflections that come after a love goes wrong. 'Didn't I touch you, didn't I hold you, didn't I kiss you with a tenderness,?' "As if that's supposed to be enough, right?"she say's, "we've all been there, I just write about it." Of the thirteen cuts on the CD, eleven were written by Lacy. "Everyone has a tough time when it comes to love, I write about what I see or what I experience. I know,. another song about heartache, bore me, but what else is there besides money and the pull of gravity that has such a huge affect on the human BEING?!" Lacy goes on to say, "I'm not a victim, I'm a survivor and if sharing my music encourages, entertains or inspires others in any way, I'm a happy to be of service!
