La Dies, announced by Phil Jupitus wearing his “Fuck art, let’s dance” t-shirt, looked as if they’d stepped out of the mid-60s, but somehow they also brought with them the freshness and energy of those halcyon days, putting me in mind of an updated Yardbirds in places. Their confident vocalist quickly establishing a noisy rapport with the audience, La Dies played their strong pop/rock compositions with cool panache as frontman Pete made sure not a square inch of stage was left uncovered as he strutted, leapt and danced for all he was worth. No wallflower, he; and this is one hell of a good band. The crowd thought so too, judging by the applause accompanying what seemed like an all-too-soon departure.

It was a friday night and the locals were lining up to get into the small but popular venue to see La-Dies, a promoising young band from Stoke-on-Trent. Lyrically, they are ground-breaking for an up-and-coming band, with a very strong presence and an energetic performace. They show steady rhythms; Incorporating elements of both old and new music, playtin particularly on the genres of new wave. In many ways this was reminiscent of Joy Division. The crowd seems to be held, as if by magnets as they played. The progression from the local band to wider fan base quite quickly must mean that they have something about them, or a certain level of talent. This is not just stereotypical or generic. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting gig. I'm sure they will go very far.

La-dies, a 5 piece band originated in May of 2006 in Staffordshire. They combine self made riffs with a unique sense of sound which makes them one of the biggest upcoming bands of the year.

During gigs they are in their element, with energetic performances from the vocalist. La-dies have only performed a few times, but have gained a huge fan base from the local area. They are looking forward to travelling around the country to entertain larger crowds and gain more momentum.

Watch out for La-dies, they're like nothing you've ever heard before.
