Just 19 years old, K. Young is already an industry vet-this whirlwind of talent has been in the business since the tender age of 9, wielding the mic and commanding the screen. K. Young is also a new kind of singer/songwriter for the 21st Century-having written for multi-platinum artists like Brandy, Yolanda Adams and Ginuwine, who have all recorded his songs.

With the release of Learn to Love, his first solo album on Treacherous/Universal, he is bringing his new sound to the streets. "I just wanted to have great songs, great lyrics, great melodies," says K. Young, and with bangers like the first single, "That Girl," he's set to do just that. With several major labels vying for his music, it was an introduction by family friend, Raven Simone to Treacherous CEO, Tico Khrimian that solidified his label choice. "When I went to meet with the guys at Treacherous, they listened to my music.they got it, believed in my writing abilities, and trusted me to do my own thing," K. Young explains. "I was there!"

The album, which features tracks produced by Jazz Nixon, Dom * Won, Rick Rude, L.T. Hutton, Grant and Chase, 5150, Komplex and Infamous Productions, is a combination of club anthems ("Twista"), mellow grooves ("Learn How to Love") and soulful ballads ("I Wanna Be") that set him apart from the competition. "I really wanted to do real life stuff," says K. Young, who counts the Jackson 5, Beyonce, Kim Burrell, Daryl Coley, and Stevie Wonder among his favorite artists. "All the verses are put together so well. They are real stories, real messages. It's not just 'pop the bottles,' let's go hop in the Bentley on dubs. I didn't want to have an album that's just talking about the same stuff. I study a lot of people's music, everything on the radio, everything I hear. So now that it's my turn, I know how I can take it to the next level."

K. Young, under the guidance of his management company, Mi-La Entertainment has developed into a musical genius.

Discovered when he was just 9 years old, K. Young got his first taste of success in the film "Eye For an Eye" with Sally Field and Keifeer Sutherland. Subsequently K. Young appeared in "The Fan" with Robert De Niro, Wesley Snipes and Benicio Del Toro and "Matilda," directed by Danny DeVito.

At 11, a lucky introduction led to K. Young cinching the spot as lead singer for the R and B group, 3rd Storee. The Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds-produced group went on to have two hit singles, "If Ever," a scorching R and B ballad and "Party Tonight," a raucous up-tempo joint that featured production by RL of Next and guest vocals by Treach of Naughty by Nature. On the heels of the CD's much heralded release, the group toured with Britney Spears, N*Sync and the Backstreet Boys and in general provided him the experience which has prepared him for his songwriting career and the release of his first solo CD.

By age 16 K. Young had began working with producer Rodney Jerkins of Darkchild Productions, and, a short year later, signed a million dollar publishing deal with Mosaic Publishing. As a writer, K. Young has written songs for the film and soundtrack to Honey (recorded by Yolanda Adams, Tweet, 3rd Storee and Ginuwine); he also wrote "Do That Thing for Me," for B2K and Lil' Kim for the movie You Got Served.

K. Young's songwriting career was well in hand and then he began writing with his sister, songwriter Kenisha Pratt, (who contributed "What About Us," "When You Touch Me," "Anybody," "Nothing," WOW," and "Apart" to Brandy's hit album Full Moon, and "Selfish," and "Whatchu Need," for Toni Braxton). The duo has since contributed two new songs, the title track, "Afrodisiac" and "Sadiddy," to Brandy's critically acclaimed, just-released CD, Afrodisiac.

Most recently K. Young has hooked up with Omarion, former lead singer for B2K, and written 2 songs for his upcoming solo project. K. also just wrote "Ghetto Desperado" with Platinum Hit Producer Rodney Jerkins for "4 MULA 1" which is a new group on Warner Brothers. He is also scheduled to have the 2nd single off the album, which is due out in September 2004.

Launching his own production company, Magic Ink, K. Young is in the studio with his first signed artist, A*Roc, and working on a project for his other sister, KeAna.

. With such an impressive resume, it's a wonder it took K. Young so long to do his own thing, but he says everything happens for a reason. "I'm ready now," he says. "I'm not ready for everything, but now is my time to make my mark." It's this mix of optimism and work ethic, combined with his tremendous writing, singing and performing instincts that has made him one of the most naturally gifted teens to come along in years. "It's hard work," chimes in K. Young, "but I'm ready. The whole thing is a blessing."
