Kronic aka Yungfresh
Kronic is among the rappers who came out of hiphop's
Dirty South. His name derived from Greek
chromos, which means “lasting a long time.” Kronic
has favored the swaged-out gangster side of the Dirty
South; and he gets his inspiration from both Southern
and non-Southern rappers.
Kronic stomping ground is Tunica, Mississippi.
Prior to the emergence of glamorous lights of casino
gaming, Tunica was notorious for the level of poverty
among its African American population. "Sugar
Ditch" was the name of a three-street neighborhood
which saw destitution that rivaled third world ghettos
in Africa or South America, causing the Rev. Jesse
Jackson to label it "America's Zimbabwe" in a late
1980's visit. If dealing with poverty and the socioeconomic
factors plaguing Tunica was not enough,
Kronic experienced a feeling that most of us could
not bear, he lost his mother to a devastating car crash
in 2002.
Tunica is not known for rap, it’s the home of blues
musicians like Son House “Father of Folk Blues,”
Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, and Willie Brown.
Rap was not prevalent in the Tunica area. However,
Kronic did not let that stop him from pursing a passion
for rap. In Kronic’s music, he doesn't always
rap about crime and inner-city thug life, he raps
about day to day struggles in which he captures the
audience attention and remind them of situations they
have been in and offer closure. Kronic has opened
for numerous multi-platinum and major artist like
Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Pretty Willie,
Lil Boosie, Lil Weebie, Plies, Eight Ball & MJG and
many, many more.
Kronic's goal is to become a multi-platinum artist.
Kronic has fought through adversity, poverty, and the
loss of the most precious gift anyone can lose, a
mother. Through it all, Kronic has stayed focused
and worked hard to accomplish his dream of becoming
the next superstar. Kronic is the perfect example
of “nothing good in life don’t come without a
struggle.”
