Komenz

Duriel ‘Komenz’ Mensah is a 16 year old producer hailing from Manor park in East London. Komenz started producing with a copy of FL Studio 6 Demo. Which he used for over a year and a half. The initial reason he began producing was because music was in his blood. Ever since young he would attempt any musical instrument he could get his hands on.



His child hood was heavily influenced by musical aspects. But from the age of 9 onwards football started to creep up, and later d his goals from being a music producer to a fulltime footballer. Despite not playing for a team he received a lot of attention from most coaches and teams. Luckily by the age of 14 he decided that he was sure he wanted to become a music producer. So the chains of sport let go and music rescued him. At the age of 12 he began producing but it was not as serious as he is now. People often would underestimate and limit the final products or work that would come out of Duriel’s hands. He tells me people would either say ‘Your not good’ or ‘You wont make it’. Even though he received rash speculation and discouragement from others he still was determined to follow his dreams, which should be an inspiration to anyone.



Over the years Duriel has seen a major improvement with instrumentals and the artists in which he communicates with. He now collaborates with mainstream artists, he has produced a number of instrumentals for most mainstream artists in the genre of grime. He produced Voltage’s Can’t Do It Like I Do, and Double S’s Piff 64 Freestyle which both received attention from Mc’s and Dj’s.



In May 2007 he started a team titled ‘Younger Beat Creatures’ which is a team of producers from the multi-talented group Beat Creatures. He admits that ’Managing YBC is not an easy job, there are a lot of things you have to learn. To be a leader’. Younger Beat Creatures are all aged between 13 - 16 and can produce most genres that elders would not even attempt. This is the year in which younger beat creatures show there character and pursue there dreams.



Lastly Komenz wanted to mention that ‘Without my boy Army I would not have this much attention and status because he is the one who got the ball rolling. Also hang tight DJ Impact for picking me up and helping me with producing and also being a positive influence. Lastly hang tight Beat Creatures who are one of my main influences next to Dot Rotten, all of you watch out for the Beat Creature family we have a lot planned for 09’.



In contrast to his childhood he receives an enormous amount of encouragement from a lot of people around him. His college teacher at Redbridge doesn’t believe the talent that is acquired for his age. Duriel also mentioned that ‘the talent he has amazing. He shows an advanced knowledge and quality’. He will be attending Redbridge College after GCSE’s are completed.



In conclusion I say that I believe Komenz Has a lot to prove and is an undoubtedly a upcoming producer you should be aware of and watch closely.
