Sometimes you just know when you run into that special person, who has that special thing that people want to be apart of. One who embodies raw vocal talent, passion, humility, ambition and sass and won't be persuaded by life's limits. The kind of person you look at and are forced to recognize that stardom exists within them… Well, we introduce you to SKAI.
SKAI (pronounced Sky) is an American R&B/Alternative R&B/Pop singer/songwriter/videographer and engineer. Born in New Orleans, LA raised in Tallahassee, FL, SKAI received much of her music foundation that would prepare her for a long-term career in the arts.
SKAI released her first mix-tape "The Campaign XI The Prelude to Demp Week" in 2003 unveiling her hit single "Like That" Ft the Ying Yang Twinz. This resulted in nationwide radio airplay as well as placing SKAI in the forefront of her peers as an artist on the rise. Following the success of her first mix-tape, a second was released in 2008 entitled "The Skai is the Limit" featuring the radio friendly single "Why You Didn't Call". This single debuted at number two in 2007 on www.groupietunes.com via the unsigned artist ringtone roster. From this success SKAI was granted the opportunity to sing on and become apart of several radio commercials ranging from "First Team Mitsubishi" to "Eve's Beauty Supply" in her local/regional area.
SKAI has received several music awards including The 2008 Gainesville Music Summits Best Unsigned R&B artist of year award, the 2009 Southern Entertainment Best Unsigned R&B artist of the year award, the 2009 Tallahassee Idol award as well as winning the November 2010 weekly line up of Who's got that vibe in Atlanta GA. SKAI was also awarded the key to the city from the city of Monticello, FL for her positive musical contributions in the community.
SKAI was convinced her dreams of stardom could become an even bigger reality if she relocated to a bigger market while still continuing to perfect her craft. So, in 2010 she packed up and headed to Atlanta, GA. There she began performing at talent showcases and training at artist boot camps while still continuing to write and record original material. She later landed a background singing job with Grammy nominated artist B.o.B where she appeared alongside him on NBC's "Jimmy Fallon Late Night Show" in 201 1.
SKAI continues to work on her original music and is set to release an EP in early 2012. She is definitely an artist on the rise with all the essential tools needed to become a global superstar. Just remember-you read it here first!!!
