On February 25, 1984 in Jamaica University Hospital, Trevor Syncon and Patricia Warner welcomed Fats a.k.a Fatta into the world and onto the island of Jamaica. Deep in the trenches of Tivoli Gardens existed hope for all ghetto youths and their family to rise up and get an opportunity of the wealth and excitement of America. Fats mother was able to travel abroad to the U.S.A and devise a plan for her family. Being left under the supervision of his father, grandmother, and older brother, Fats attended Dunns primary school in Kingston, Jamaica. But his academic studies came to an abrupt halt when Hurricane Gilbert hit and ravaged the beautiful island of Jamaica in 1984. This event caused Patricia to try her best to file papers for Fats, his brother, and grandmother to enter the U.S. Successfully at the tender age of four, Fats touchdown in the Brooklyn streets. Being what most New Yorkers considered a foreigner or “yardie” Fats was easily influenced by all the mischief, chaos, and adventure offered by the city. This caused him to stay in and out of trouble throughout Public School (P.S. 244), Junior high school (I.S. 285). Barely making it out of middle school Fats became the true epitome of “Fuck High School I went to school high.” Which resulted in frequent short stays in the criminal system. This troubled his mother dearly at the same time neglected Fats of his true talent potential~”Music”. Early on Fats was always influenced by reggae and rap music because of his older brother Duck. Whenever Fats was allowed to mingle within his older brother’s circle of friends he noticed how music set the tone for their lifestyles and behavior. It inspired him to try to do music. During his adolescence he practiced on his skills of writing and performing music. It wasn’t until a close friend of his named “Feather Mop” took serious notice in Fats interest in music. With Feather Mop’s assistance, Fats recorded his first demo tape in a Manhattan studio. This gave him the drive to pursue music more. Studio after Studio. Networking and more networking. Friends and family support. This hunger lead to Fats get signed into a management deal with “Guard Up Ent.” which was previously owned by former baseball player Dalano Deshields. On this label Fats became labelmates with “Dylan Dillinger” (Making da Band ). Subsequently obstacles slowed Fats progress as an artist. The label was terminated by Mr. Shields as a result of an undisclosed violent incident that took place. Neither Fats or his labelmate(s) had any part in the matter, but were dropped by the label. Fortunately for Fats when one door of opportunity closed another opened immediately. After being introduced to “Hitman,” the owner of King Fila Ent.; the cousin of his baby mother, Fats was inspired and much more determined to chase his dream. Fats and Hitman shared the same vision of wealth, fame and fortune. The last ingredient of such a wonderful combination came in the form of a producer by the name of “Fingaz.” Fingaz would be the one to produce Fats first reggae hit called “Real Bad Man” that infiltrated the hardcore reggae world by storm. This established Fats as a talented new artist that was evidently a desirable mention in the circle of the dancehall. Riding on the wave of the success of “Real Bad Man” allowed Fats to further his career by powerful forms of networking. Within this networking Fats discovered that another reggae artist by the name of “Movodo” was indeed his god-brother. In conclusion Fats rise to stardom was not carved by some industry scout or some fancy image consultant. His imprint was established through not only Tivoli Gardens and the Brooklyn streets. It was also done by his passion and respect for the culture and preservation of reggae music. So with his hopes, ambitions, and the Garrison on his shoulders King Fila Ent.
