Kimmo Pohjonen / Samuli Kosminen / Kronos Quartet's Uniko album is released Feb 9, 2011 in Finland by Ondine record company. International releases follow throughout Feb and March. Uniko was recorded at Avatar Studio, NYC and produced by Valgeir Sigurdsson. Additional recordings and mixing at Greenhouse, Reykjavik and Ulappa, Helsinki.



K CUBE TOUR OF FINLAND:
Kimmo Pohjonen, Sami Kuoppamäki and Timo Kämäräinen (aka K Cube) will tour Finland in October 2010. The trio of accordion, drums and guitars explores new paths of solos, duos and group compositions and improvisations.

KINO UUMEN FILM MUSIC PERFORMANCES
Kimmo Pohjonen (accordion) and Eric Echampard (drums) will perform as Kino Uumen at the Love and Anarchy Film Festival in Helsinki on Sept 26 at 21:30. Venue: Cinema Bio Rex. The improvisational music duo will perform music for the films: Freedub 1, MRDRCHAIN, Black Horse and Máquina.

ACCORDION WRESTLING PREMIERE in Turku, April 22:
Kimmo Pohjonen premieres his new project Haitaripainia / Accordion Wrestling in Turku, Finland in April, 2010. The performance, featuring Pohjonen and ten Finnish wrestlers, is a revival of Finnish wrestling tradition from early to mid-1900s where accordion was included as musical accompaniment for wrestling matches. Haitaripainia 2010 expands the tradition into a theatrical sport / music performance art piece with light design by Mikki Kunttu, sound design by Heikki Iso-Ahola and direction / choreography by Ari Numminen. The performances begin in Turku, continue in Helsinki in May and go to Stockholm and Tampere in August 2010. The show will be expanded to a larger scale for performances at Turku Cultural Capital 2011 events.

Three recordings from Kimmo Pohjonen's Earth Machine Music are now available as downloads. The new project of visual performance artist Ville Walo and Kimmo Pohjonen entitled Rautakeuhko "Iron Lung" makes its premiere at Verkatehdas, Vanajasali in Hämeenlinna, Finland on December 1st and 2nd. The hour long music theatre performance features Walo and Pohjonen and over one hundred accordion bellows with all new music composed by Pohjonen.



KTU'S SECOND ALBUM entitled Quiver is released in Finland by Rockadillo Records on February 4, 2009 and throughout Europe in March 2009 by Rockadillo/Westpark. Disk Union will release Quiver in Japan on March 20, 2009. The American release is on May 1 by 7dMedia.
KTU (pronounced "K2") is now a trio following the departure of Samuli Kosminen in 2007. The new album Quiver was recorded at The Zone studios, Dripping Springs, Texas in 2007 and 2008, production by KTU, engineered by Pat Manske. Additional recordings were made in Seattle and Helsinki. The album was mixed by KTU and Petri Majuri at Seawolf Studios, Helsinki in autumn 2008 with additional mixes of three pieces by Steven Wilson at No Man's Land Studios, UK. All music was composed by the various band members and arranged by KTU. Samuli Kosminen provided additional percussives and sounds.



POHJONEN / KOSMINEN / PROTON STRING QUARTET toured Estonia in Feb 2009



POHJONEN'S EARTH MACHINE MUSIC toured Queensland, Australia in July 2009. EMM toured UK in May 2008, featuring accordion, farm machines and animals, samples and lots of funny noises in general.



EARTH MACHINE MUSIC audio downloads will be available from Oxford Contemporary Music in late 2009. Three pieces from the UK tour of 2008 have been mixed in Helsinki by Pohjonen and made ready for public release as downloads by OCM.



POHJONEN BIO:
Finnish Accordionist KIMMO POHJONEN has been playing since age 8 in folk, rock, avant-garde, classical, improvisation, theatre and dance music groups and projects. In 1996 he embarked on a solo career with his solo 5-row accordion project, featuring original compositions, live loops and effects, a dynamic and animated stage performance, orchestrated lights and surround sound. His singular mission is to expand the capabilities, sound, performance, scope and experience of the accordion in many different projects.

FILM MUSIC: Pohjonen has composed and performed music for three films the British short film "Flickerman and the Ivory-Skinned Woman", the Russian full length feature film, "Majak". With Samuli Kosminen, they composed the full length Finnish feature film "Jade Warrior". Pohjonen and Kosminen have also composed music for a Finnish "circus theatre" performance, Keskusteluja.



MUSIC FOR DANCE: Pohjonen has composed music for a Swedish dance performance by choreographer Lisa Torun and collaborated in Paris with dancers /choreographers Tero Saarinen and Carolyn Carlson. His music is used in dance and ballet performances by Finnish choreographer Jorma Uotinen.



PAST PROJECTS include: Kalmuk, featuring Tapiola Sinfonietta, Manipulator with Marita Liulia and buto dancer /choreographer Aki Suzuki, duo Pinnin Pojat with JPP fiddler Arto Järvelä and Ismo Alanko Säätiö.
